So they would then play Torrey Pines twice within a month... a regular event and a signature event. Not sure if they are planning to use North for the other event.

I know they are in a pickle and the logistics to prepare an event are significant. But this solution still seems a little lacking in ambition.
Did the SU Athletic Dept. consult on this path of least resistance? Right up their alley.

I was thinking the same. Uninspiring. Most tour players aren't in love w/ Torrey either.

Not my idea

But I tend to agree. There are a lot of PGA quality tracks out there that the tour doesn’t regularly visit (Olympic Club, etc) that would have been great candidates. I’d guess that they were looking for a place with infrastructure in place that had close proximity to southern CA for a variety of reasons. But yes, to me it lacks creativity and is missed opportunity…

I think it checks off a lot of boxes and the options were very limited.

1) Location, although they fly these guys overseas to the British Open.

2) Everything set up from a players and fans perspective. This is a huge undertaking for a course and near impossible to do from scratch within a months time.

3) Public vs Private. Not sure the voting members of a private club would ever agree to this.

Finished T18 in a strong field. Two made cuts = very good start to the season.
Not sure if re-shuffling is the same as before, but in the years back anyway a good start for a player new (or back on tour after an absence) was important. Allowed them to get in a few more events in the first half of the season.

Wow, really enjoying these crosswinds wreaking havoc at Torrey Pines.

North Course is scoring even higher than the South Course.

Annnd, just like that, play has been halted.

A lot different than yesterday.

Play just got halted due to the winds.

Apparently because balls were moving on the greens as players were lining up putts.
Wimps. Obviously they have never played in Upstate NY in Nomember with leaves blowing all over the greens to make it impossible to get a clean putt.

Brian Campbell with his first win. Love to see it. This 20 year old Potsticker kid could be special. Just kills the ball.

Kevin Roy got a top 20 which is great.

Kevin Roy off to an hot start in the Puerto Rico Open. -4 thru 6 holes. Started on the back 9.

Tied for first! Have a day Kev!!
Finished up with a bogey on his 17th hole and a bounce back birdie on the Par 5, 9th hole (his 18th) to finish in solo first place with a 62.

Not sure, but it could be his first lead in a PGA event.

Not a great Friday for Kevin with a 73. His Thursday 62 made him safe. Rebounded with a 67 today. -14 which is T10 with only 8 golfers still out there. Get low on Sunday and secure a T10, maybe T5.

NBC has Kevin Kinzer as their booth analyst?
