Most analytics say saving an out is more valuable than a guy advancing 90 feet. But I agree it is abandoned too much these days. I guess it’s situational.

I figured it was an analytics thing. But, guys don't have the skillset to modify their approach to hit to right field with a man on 1st. You don't necessarily have to sacrifice, but at least try to get a hit, but if you don't, make a productive out.
