2025: 13-6 NCAA Semifinals
Highest vote: 2
Lowest vote: 6
First game: 2/1 vs. Boston U
Joey Spallina is the No. 1 player in the country, and his class that came in with enormous expectations has one more chance for a title after bringing the Orange back to Championship Weekend.

I think I am more upset about Syracuse being ranked behind Princeton than not getting a first place vote. Any voter who didn't vote Maryland first probably doesn't deserve a vote. I assume most did the "Champion starts out as number one" which is why Cornell got some votes, but that might be the most antiquated line of thinking this side of a Bacharach helmet. The person who voted UNC number one ... I don't have words for right now.

cuse and princeton is a tossup...i see both as defensible for no. 2. there was not much separating them last year...among key guys cuse loses hiltz, english, rice, grace, caccamo, levine if you want to count him...on the other side pton loses mackesy, bath, mulshine (who was terrible in the quarterfinals), and fairback...maybe slight edge to pton as the team that loses fewer key names. it's close. they will settle it on the field...

On the other hand, a voter voting Princeton #1 and a voter voting Syracuse #6 make up most of the 7 point difference between Princeton and Syracuse.

I don't know if I'd agree about that w/r to Maryland. Yes they made the final, but it's not like they dominated the regular season. I don't have qualms about them being ranked first with what they have back but I don't agree with them being an obvious #1. Nobody has to like it, but it's just my own thoughts.

When Zack80 writes 1,000 words in rebuttal, you’ll have no one to blame but yourself

The difference I see between Cuse fans and fanbases of other teams it the willingness to be critical of the team's weaknesses and shortcomings. On here everyone has no issue talking about this team's problems with pole discipline, offside penalties etc. You don't see that on other fan forums, at least not to the degree with this fanbase. Go anywhere else and the fans of national championship contending teams have an extremely hard time admitting problems or skepticism. There's always a reason why something is not actually a question mark. So it's not like I'm saying "Cuse should be ranked #1, no one else".

It's probably because our fan base is far more passionate and larger than at any other school. Something Joey mentioned when he started his freshman year.

Lol comment from a Hobart fan on fanlax: "It may show up on Fanlax. If not, check out syracusefan.com. There will be the usual chest thumping/bloviating, but there are some posters on there that give fair comments

Yes, all that chest thumping and bloviating. Coming from the fanbase that thought they could get one of the Powell brothers to take over as head coach.

Very little "looking the other way" on The Sabre. You should have seen the comments when the diehards and traditionalists found out Lars spent a day of practice discussing a book.

Maybe so. That's still not the norm. As an example, you can tell several fanbases that you're not really sure about their goalie situation and you'll get "but we have a 5 star recruit that's going to be taking over there's no issue and we're not worried." There have been plenty of 5 star goalies that didn't light the world on fire, especially their first year in net. Jimmy McCool is a 5 star goalie, he got benched last year a time or two.

Yoru mostly right, there aren't a lot of clued in fanbases at the D1 level. UNC and Duke for example essentially have almost zero online fanbase presence. Cuse, UVA, Hopkins (fanlax) and a few others including Maryland you'll get fanbases who will certainly critique whats going on internally. Funny enough your mortal nemesis Hobart actually has a # of posters who have been highly critical as well. That said its definitely the exception and not the norm.

You also have to realize my commentary on Hobart is also largely an extension of my Liberty League affiliation (SLU) so it's not always rationally based.

Looks like today over at fanlax you got a glimpse as to why they're my mortal nemesis!

LOL I resisted posting a response to that guy but couldn't hold myself back. Appears he's a players parent whose not familiar with the landscape of D1. Most of the guys over there are pretty reasonable though, I have had some good conversations with a # of them.

Tried helping out over there but it might be a lost cause with that gentleman

Appreciate it. Ketch is a long time Hobart fan and poster who also sort of set him straight. Another long time HObart poster and knowledgeable fan also sent me a PM noting he's a players father and isn't really clued in on the landscape of the sport. Again most of the guys I find very reasonable but there's always a couple in every fanbase.

You can make blanket assumptions about Hobart, it’s ok.
I should get an award for showing remarkable restraint for not having commented there in a while.
