2026 Mets - Stearns says “finish him!”

Good start. Peralta wasn’t great but good enough. Benge and Alvarez looked strong at the bottom of the lineup. Surprised they absolutely rocked Skenes. Let’s hope the offense keeps rolling.

Mets have an interesting team. The Polar Bear has left the building but they might hit more HRs without him. Lots of guys who can hit 20 or 30. Pete incidentally went 0-3 with 2 whiffs for the Os yesterday.

Off day today and I think McLean starts tomorrow.

He’s welcome to play the position every time we play them for the foreseeable future. Rather see him get moved to Philly or Atlanta though.

And he hits the ball harder than anybody else in baseball ... when he makes good contact.

Some years you will see he has like 10+ of the 20 hardest hit balls.

Certain great +++ tools... and then a lot of crap.

Pete starting the year as we saw quite often here without the security blanket of Soto. Really stoked about Benge and Alvarez getting a good start and Peralta not letting then NY spotlight get him out of sorts. I’m sure he was glad to get game 1 out of the way so he can get back to pitching like an ace.

If this can keep up- there won’t be any real weak spots in the lineup. Day 1 can always be fools gold but if guys stay healthy and our starters get back to form behind a new ace or maybe even two if McLean gets rolling then could be a fun year.

let’s hope the bats wake up. Solid game 1 then vanished since. Pitching has been solid at least but not much to show for it.

Worst team in baseball. How can they all underperform so poorly. At some point the Baty/Vientos experiment of are the quad a guys has to end.

My biggest fear is that Stearns prefers to shop in the bargain aisle for pitching and it blows up on him

It’s been a while since I’ve had zero appetite to watch them this year early into the year. Started the year with a lot of promise ….

I feel your pain. It’s been a brutal start to the season. I had to force myself to check the scores for the west coast games as I’m not staying up late to watch the hot mess that the Mets are.

I know it’s mid-April but yeah this season is over. You don’t come back from a 10 game losing streak(and very well could be more). I’d be shocked if Mendoza lasts another week. Stearns should be on the hot seat too. Cohen with his “5 year plan” looks like another bumbling know nothing owner. An absolute embarrassment in Queens and that’s putting it lightly.

The thing that gets me with Stearns is that smarmy smirk he has like he’s the smartest guy in the room. He’s not looking to smart right now with his off season moves.

I don’t see how this is Cohens fault. His job is to provide money for the roster and build the player development infrastructure. Mets have the second highest payroll and clearly the infrastructure for developing talent is state of the art. His “mistake” was giving the keys to one of the most well regarded and respected baseball people at the time in Stearns. Other than Soto… this roster is all Stearns and btw according to all the analytics guys have this as the second best team in the national league.

Stearns mistakes:
- all of his moves both last off season, last trade deadline and two off seasons ago completely blew up
- i think bichette and Robert are play but the rest are meh
- he needs to figure out what he wants to do with pitching because his strategy of never give >3 years deals and bargain bin shopping is not working
- Baty/Vientos are failed bets
- I thought Lindor was a huge mistake since day 1 and i believe that even more now
- this isn’t on Stearns or Cohen but too many players come to nyc and under peform or leave nyc and get good again. This has been a decades long trend… not sure what the problem is.
- The have been missing the successor to David wright… there has been no leadership in the clubhouse since he left.
