2026 Olympic Hockey

Here comes the darned offside rule.
This might be coming back.

The 4 last men's games, and the gold medal women's game, have all either had a tying goal or winning goal in the last 2 or 3 minutes of regulation.

So much drama.

Canada pulling games out of their ass

They did outplay the Finns by a fair amount today, but it could have easily went the other way.

This is certainly not like 2014 for Canada.

Not a hockey guy but I love the rule that if you lose the challenge you have to play short handed.NFL should adopt it.

I'm not crazy about a penalty for a failed challenge (obviously I'm in the minority as the NHL voted to add a penalty a few years back)

To me, if you are going to grant one challenge then grant it with no strings attached.

For example, Canada's second goal today (with 10 minutes left) apparently may have been an offside. But the Finns declined to challenge out of fear of being penalized.

To me the one challenge should give you chance to get a call right, and not a strategic call in case you are wrong.

Hey Tage, where has that been all year?

He’s been greater 5 on 5 this year. His pp one timer has disappeared this season.

Fins were outplayed but yet and still I think their goalie was going to steal it for them had they not hamstrung him by taking two terrible high sticking penalties leading two 2 ppg and the other goal due to his D man dumping Marchand onto his lap

I'm realizing Olzyck is to passing what football announcers are to 4th downs. Nonstop hindsight yammering except when it works, then you just never mention it.

Why would you expect them to not be really disappointed with a silver? Even if they were a decent dog in this one based on the US dominating the recent 4 game rivalry series, this team core has a history of winning the big game and it will always jolt them to lose to the USA. These two teams have been very close to each other for 25 years... and no other country has ever become close to a peer, making the rivalry even bigger.

- Canada has won gold 4 of the last 5 Olympics before this one. Their captain has 3 gold medals, a number of players have two.
- They have won the World Championship 3 of the last 5 years.

This team based on their history expects to be able to have a good chance to win these games (of course they will some lose some as well). And when they lose they won't be happy just to have competed.

Not to take anything away from the US who has been the far superior team in 2025/2026 - probably the "largest gap" they have ever had over Canadian woman from what I have heard.
I had no expectations regarding the reaction the Canadian women had to winning the silver.

They did get humiliated by the Americans a couple days before. I would guess it was the worst loss Canada has ever had in women’s hockey.

Anyway, I have watched a lot of teams react to medal ceremonies over the years. The Canadian women were polite but looked like they all really wanted to be somewhere else.

It will be interesting to see how they do against the US in the future. I will be watching.
