2026 QB Situation

Another scenario is that Odom does so well we roll with him deeper into 2026. Angeli could be "ready," but also in a position that there is no need to play him in September if not 100% necessary. Is there a scenario where Angeli gets to redshirt for 2025 and 2026?
No Angeli doesn't have a redshirt year left. His redshirt year was in 2022. Then medical shirt in 2025 leaving him two more years.

Fran will play QB1 from day 1. There is no other scenario.

We are complaining about a QB3 who theoretically should NEVER see the field and we wanted someone better?

Thats...something.
But I do find the tone of this response and your absoluteness in what will happen a bit comical. How quickly we forget the 2025 season. Especially considering this season we go into it with some degree of certainly in QB1's health. Its as if we haven't been around SU football for decades and seen the QB injuries we've had nearly every year.

If another 2025 happened all over again, just hang up the program.

Inartful on my part. Can we keep getting medical redshirts?

Yes. They don't limit those nearly as much which is how you end up with, like, 28 year olds playing.

I think there is merit to that. If Angeli isn't fully ready it may not be worth the risks. Odom is more than just a capable backup and, while not a better player than Steve, has some skills that Steve doesn't. He's a big dual threat QB; a category of athlete that has historically done very well here.

So we lost Rickie, Jakhari and Carney. We gained Odom, Lauter and Lott as a freshman.

So depth chart is Angeli, Odom, Lauter, Lott, and Filardi?

I love that we could have Angeli two more years but the fact that we could have him for two more years has made recruiting QB dpeth much harder. All is fine if he's good to go for 2025, but if not it is not looking good as we would have Odom and then...Lauter or a true freshman in Lott??? Ugh.

I knew the situation was going to be more difficult to bring in another solid QB after the solid Odom get but this is disappointing for QB3. Especially considering the QB's we were hoping for in Atkinson, Dickens, Novosad etc. Yes Fran promised to bring in 2 more QB's but I was hoping this one after Odom was going to be more of a 2/3 string level of QB and I don't quite feel like it is. A player that can at least give a fighting shot against Odom for a starting role if Angeli isn't good to go. It seemed like that was the plan and I don't feel like Lauter is in that realm.

Lauter's 2024 stats were 185 yds passing per game at 61.4% 11TD to 10 INT. 2025 stats were 206 yds/game 61.4% and 5TD to 1 INT. I mean Lauter's stats against weak competition in 2024 were not that great. He played in just 3 games in 2025 and a tad better but still nothing great. I mean he is playing against weak competition and not exactly excelling. We are talking Wagner level teams which was actually 1 of the 3. We are familiar with that level of talent. Davidson, Wagner and Lafayette were the 3. The jump to P4 is a big jump. And he is not a runner at all according to his rushing stats as his he rushed for total of 10 total yds in a season.
regarding lauter playing weak competition, that is correct. but look at the other side of the coin. he had an equally weak team around him.

We got a situation, all right...

Is it officially our deepest QB room ever?

Just by math since there are 7 of them.

He’s gonna be ready for a lot more activity than people think. Surgery went as well as could be hoped, he’ll participate in most everything short of scrimmages. Even that’s a possibility
That’s pretty amazing this many months from surgery. Certainly helped having it done by one of the top orthopedic surgeons in the country.

I’d be fine if they didn’t push him in Spring. If he can throw, he can get enough work in with the new WR group…or the ones that are here. We’re really going to need his leadership with such a young group. I’m sure he will have them out there working on chemistry.

throwing to an entire new group.
Yup. All I care about is timing and throwing with receivers by the summer. Anything else is gravy. But he’s pretty dedicated and determined to return and win. Dudes a competitor.

Love that we are throwing numbers at QB. Might not be the best strategy though to bring in guys who had bad completion percentages and high INTs against lower level competition.

He’s also a perfect fit for Nixon’s offense. If he’s fully healthy and ready to roll, he can help elevate the trajectory of these young wideouts. No reason he can’t be in the race for top passing yards in the country.

Whichever QB has a mystery hand injury and sits out the spring game - that’s the one we know can’t play.
