2026 QB Situation

yea, Odom is not like Rickie. We just whiffed on that one because we were evaluating practice tape and HS footage vs. game tape. We paid up for him -- he's really good.
What are your thought on Malachi Nelson?

He's a flyer - I hope he never has to see the field. He's surprisingly quick and has a lot of talent but has never harnessed it before. Will he finally do that here? Perhaps but that requires him either being in a specialized package where he can leverage his speed or we've lost a bunch of other QBs ahead of him.

I think in terms of pure arm talent and accuracy, I prefer Danny L. or Lott ahead of Nelson.

Yeah, In listening to Nixon's comments in his interview posted above, i had a feeling he included Danny L as part of the 3 when saying we hope to have 3 or 4 ready to go. That assumption was just considering he had Danny L throwing to Vilari and others in the Syracuse Pro Day.

Also it seems odd to me that you say this when Malachi Nelson was the #5 QB coming out of HS in his class according to 247 and it was specifically stated in his analysis that he had elite arm talent. Certainly not saying your wrong. Its just doesn't make a lot of sense to me unless he maybe got an injury at some point. Either that or the analysists were just wrong I guess.

Well I think based on results the analysts have been wrong. All these guys have big arms. It’s whether they’re accurate and can make the right reads. Some guys translate better to the college game too. See Rickie Collins.

Elite arm talent = 12oz curls

The part that always amazes me, is how fast they have to process things at this level. It is a VERY unique skill. To be able to accurately identify a coverage, make a call, start the play and read it and make the right decision within 2-3 seconds...when it's done well, it's incredible.

I saw the QBs live a couple weeks ago. Nelson is wafer thin. Zaid Lott is a man. Latter throws a “heavy” ball. I would be shocked if Lott isn’t the QB of the future.

Agree. Thought the same when I was at practice. Lott is a physical specimen. Saw him next to Joe and couldn’t believe Joe started games for us. Odom also physically looks the part.

He throws as hard as possible every time he throws the ball.

aka - like Brett Farve.

My buddies and I would joke that Farve was trying make x shaped marks (from the nose of the football)
on his receivers chests even when they were only 5 yards away.

See also: Ryan Nassib.

There was a guy from Miami back in the early / mid 1960s named George Mira.
His legend was built on a story of supposedly throwing the ball so hard that it made his receivers' hands bleed.
