2026 Schedule

Just looked at next year’s schedule. Seems set up for a Dino-esq year, fast start brutal finish.
Can't say that...9 conference games for '26
Will it be 5H/4A or 4H/5A

No idea yet if we even keep the 8 listed conference games and the order hasn't been decided yet

We expect either Yukon or Toledo to be canceled or moved to another year.

I'm expecting Toledo to be cancelled/moved.

We also don't know order of games yet.

I think the new ACC game will likely be a road game given we have two non conference away games already for 2027 in Penn State and UConn. Unfortunately that sets us up for three straight years of 6 home games before it fixes. Unless this provides us an opening with swapping BC/Pitt so one is home and one away...then we have 7, but then we have a problem in 27...so not sure that's possible (without flipping order of Uconn road/away).

The schedule is not easy, I also assume Toledo will get moved. I am glad the U Conn QB is out of eligibility(I think he has been playing football since 2019?), that is not an easy game, unless Mora leaves, then their roster will get picked apart by bigger schools. Will be interesting to see who game 9 in the ACC will be, and if the other 8 stay as is.

I think there's a very good chance Mora is gone. And he should cash in for one more bigger opportunity. I'm betting Stanford.

I have been told discussions are ongoing as to how the conference will transition to a 9 game schedule. We may simply see one more conference game next year which necessitates buying out of an OOC game or assisting the dropped opponent in finding a suitable replacement. In that instance we would most likely drop Uconn or home against Toledo depending on whether the additional game is home or away. That would leave the home schedule at seven games.
The other option is to completely scrap the existing conference schedule including the Notre Dame matchups and rebuilding from ground zero. Whenever that happens, likely not until 2027, I have been told that we have strongly requested that the Pitt and BC games are split with one on the road and one at home each year. Of course that assumes we play both every year.

Biggest hurdle right now is looking at the buyout options and mitigating the financial impact of dropping out of conference opponents. My information is dated but at the time it was discussed each school would be on their own facilitating buy outs. There would be cooperation between schools to attempt to coordinate matching up affected opponents but no direct involvement or recompense from the conference.

We can’t, I wish we could. It’s not just us, they beat everyone in the ACC, just not 70-7
And with the conference revenue sharing model based partially on tv ratings we’d take a hit financially. Not to mention a hit to the overall conference media value if the entire conference agreement with ND is scrapped.

Home or away Louisville, Pitt, Clemson, SMU, UVa and ND are brutal. UNC and Cal who knows.
Assuming conference games don't get switched out.

Pitt is always brutal for us. Even our most recent two 10 win teams lost to those d-bags
I get it but just because we suck doesn’t mean the schedule is brutal. If that’s the case a Mac schedule would be brutal the way this season has gone. Acc has the easiest path to the playoffs

I get it but my point is that even when we haven’t sucked we lose to them. Yeah it isn’t an SEC or Big 10 schedule but we don’t have their revenue either. It’s all relative. Either way, let’s hope for much better things next year

Hate to see what you say if we faced a big10 or sec type schedule. Minus nd and Clemson that isn’t a brutal schedule. Clemson hasn’t been good in a few years also.
Clemson was in the CFP last year, SMU was in CFP last year and may be this year, ND in last year and this year, UVa a 9 or 10 win team this year, Pitt discussed above, SU 2-7 vs Louisville since 2012.
So whether or not the ACC is the weakest P4 (no argument there) that finishing stretch is historically very tough for SU.

was thinking Stanford would be good fit for him as well, seems like a guy that Luck would hire as well

The order of the games hasn't been decided yet. Only ones that are set are these games (which understanding that one of the three will change):

What is so hard about next years schedule?

Cal is more likely, this was only Reich's first year.

Nothing. It's a completely ordinary college football schedule with some cupcakes, some average opponents and a few playoff contenders. If we can't compete, it's not because of the schedule, it's because we aren't good. And to be clear, I think we will be a solid team next year.
