2026 Schedule

Every year will look difficult when you're a conference bottom feeder. The whole idea from Fran is we are competing for championships in the ACC, you cannot tell me that if you think you're a championship contender that this is a difficult road. In conference you have 1 perennial "contender" in Clemson (which you get at home). No miami, no FSU. You get a tough road test against Pitt only because they cant win there no matter the playing level. Everyone else is middle of the conference and they're the games you need to win regardless to compete. If you cant beat them you have no business being in the championship game anyway.

The more I think about it the more I believe that the ACC will find a way to screw this up.

Logically speaking it makes the most sense for 1+8 so you play each team every other year. Which means you play everyone home and away over a four year period. But one team would need to be 0+8. That makes the most sense and it makes it feel like a real conference.

However, look at what they did to BBall. 18 games for 18 teams it would make sense to play your rival 2x and everyone else once. But no you play two teams twice, one team not at all, and the rest one time. Ok so those two teams are to protect rivalries right? No, you get one rival and one random. It makes no sense what so ever.

In FB we are seeing a lot of issues with the CCG. I think we need to go back to divisions. They do not have to be fixed divisions they can rotate yearly based on pods. So the B12/SEC go 2x8 and the ACC/B1G go 2x9.

If you do the division thing, you might end up not playing a specific opponent (or 2, or 3) for 5 years or more.

These huge conferences are just unmanageable.

All they needed to do was make ND conference games. If 5-0 ND wins the ACC CG, something pretty bad has happened. Meanwhile, Clemson’s now annual game with ND is conference, allowing them to keep South Carolina and still have one more non-FCS game per year. Stanford also. That leaves the other 15 teams to rotate every 5 years playing them. Let ND be the team with odd conference game number, especially where impossible for them to win enough games to make the ACC CG

They aren't fixed divisions. So in the ACC's case you have a bunch of threesomes. You get to play everyone home and away over 5 years, your threesome mates every year, a side piece rival every year, and another team 4x in 5 years. That allows a school like UNC to play UVA, Duke, NC State every year and Wake 4x in 5 years.

Good thing we have AI to figure out the calculus.

It’s not ideal to make ND part of the schedule. Nobody in the ACC beats ND. They’ve lost about twice while winning over forty games. That gives the teams that don’t play them a big advantage. Almost all the ACC/ND games have been non competitive.

And we will have someone new in the athletic department doing the football scheduling. Do we know if it is going to be Torrey Ball in charge of scheduling going forward? Or are they leaving him in charge of basketball and bringing in someone new for football?

Interesting, I hadn't heard this.

Is Herman Frazier on his way out?
