So, the first half of the book is done. 3-3 and more questions now then before he season started I think.

Personally I expect us to improve on offense because simply there’s no getting worse. But, I do not know if it will be enough.

On defense, I am not sure what to think. There definitely can not be anymore MD type games and I don’t expect that either.

1. Obviously our OL is a train wreck. Dino, how are you going to take this weakness head on? We need to see what Dino is made of second half of the season as this is the unit that’s pulling the whole team down. I hope that Dino tweaks play calls and the line finds some sort of grove that works. I don’t expect good line play at all this year, but if Dino is what we think he is - he needs to work some magic and find a way to make sure other teams don’t put salt in the already opened wound. This is going to tell me what coach has in him. This is the toughest challenge he has had to date at Syracuse.

2. QB play from Devito. We need him healthy. We need him to watch WMU tape and say “I’m the man” and I am not playing scared anymore. I hope he gets more of a gun slinging attitude. I want him to be moving this offense in tempo and working through his reads better. Also, an improvement of his internal clock. He needs to keep running like he has and slide/get out of bounds. I know Tommy’s arm is the real deal, he just needs to get better at when the play breaks down. I hope and expect these to get better. Will it get better enough to outscore teams? We have to see.

3. WRs. We know TJ is a beast. Kids going to make plays. We know taj is a solid wide out too (he needs to grow up as a team player). Now, what I REALLY want to see is cam Jordan. Kid is big and physical and looks he wants the dang ball! Also he has to be a better blocking option. I hope we see some youth to push the older guys if they are not getting it done.

4. DEs. I want them to be as dominant as we know they are. Some games I would have expected more. I want them to light it up this second half of the year and make the opposing QBs not themselves.

5. LBs. Richards should be playing more here. He plays downhill and plays hard. I want him
On the field a lot personally and hope he is.

6. Our DBs. We just need iffy and Cisco back. If and when we do then we have such a solidified group here. I expect them to play well.

Overall, it begins and ends with our line. This is the challenge that coach has and this is why he is making the big bucks. He is expected to make the wound better. He is expected to play to the teams STRENGTHS (getting the ball into our skilled players and quickly) rather then our WEAKNESS (running the ball off guard and tackle 75% of first downs). I hope coach doesn’t act too meathead here. We are dog gone awful on the line and I hope we realize this. If we keep trying to shove a square peg through a round hole like we have been, then I expect we win 2 more games max. If we put it together and become serviceable on offense I expect we can win up to 4 of the last 6. This is going to be interesting to see and as a fan all we can hope is that things go in a positive trend. Go orange!

OL — “find some sort of groove”. Dino “work some magic” “find a way”.

I wonder how this happens, in mid-season. The individual linemen (with the same five) need to block better in the run game and for pass protection. Get stronger, get quicker. More cohesion. Better adjustments to blitzes. Or maybe the coaches should make changes in the starting five - inserting Tisdale, Pat Davis, or the true frosh Bergeron?

We have a veteran OL coach, plus an OC who was an OL coach for several years with Dino. They have been aware of the issues, working at this since the Spring practices started. Wonder what they can try now?

1. More Berry and Jonathan
2. Less Cordy and Foster
3. More Coley and Stritz
4. More Richards anywhere and everywhere
5. Continued development for Black and Harper.
6. Attack the middle of the field, utilize Riley in space/realistically.
7. More Hackett and Benson
8. Cam or Sharod get a shot.

Spot on. Riley should be able to make some things happen in the slot on drags. I would also like to see him try to return a punt this year.

Expectations - None altho I'd like to get to 6 wins for season.

Hope - a functional offense that moves the ball, scores some points and that announcers don't down talk during the game.

Wasn't talked about much (it was mentioned in the game thread), but there was one punt where it seemed like Riley had a lot of room in front of him, and he fair caught it anyway.

4-2 which could be 5-1. One ugly blowout loss somewhere and a close loss.

I don't think people understand how important home field advantage is to this team.

If we went

@Liberty Week 1
HC Week 2
Pitt on a Friday at home week 3

We start 3-0, have plenty of good feelings, and split Maryland/NC State at least.
Next year it gets WORSE. We probably won't play well in Kalamazoo or Piscataway and could easily drop one. At ]Clemson week 1 will be brutal if true. This year we don't play a winnable ACC home game until week 8 and next year it looks like it could be worse. We might not even play one before Liberty on October 17th there could be a bye and an ACC road game inbetween @ WMU 9/26 and Liberty 10/17 so your first ACC home game is 10/24.

So any good momentum is going out the window next year the wheels are probably gonna come off and we might go 2-10 because this team is not good on the road and that schedule will murder us.

To me a big portion of my expectations will be predicated on if TD has a rib/torn cartlidge injury or not. If he is injured like I think it would explain some of the bizarre things I saw him do last game and at least the next few games could be more of the same before logging a few more wins again. If he is not injured, I am actually less confident because that would mean what I saw last game was something different entirely and I think larger problems are coming to the surface.
I gotta believe oline gets better, experience suggests that happens at a minimum as long as we don't lose any bodies. I expect to see some adjustments on play calling but at the end of the day the coaches don't throw, block or run so it's up to the team to come together. It's critical that a leader steps forward among the players.

considering our OOC is Liberty/Rutgers/WMU/Colgate and our crossover opponent is Georgia Tech, we really will have no right complaining about the schedule. And unless we are playing a neutral site game against someone other than Rutgers in Piscataway, there is no way in HELL we lose there. Opening with Clemson is less than ideal because they physically abuse teams and we don't need a slew of injuries in week 1. if we survive that game intact, then no reason to complain. Would be nice if that Eskridge kid leaves WMU, but he got hurt against us in week 4, so guessing he may apply for a medical redshirt. that dude destroys us

Wait, how is Pitt suddenly an automatic W? I mean we're currently 3.5 point underdogs at home on Friday.

Here's the truth. We should beat BC on our schedule at home, especially now that Brown is out for the year. That's the only game we'll be favored in the rest of the way.

BUT - Wake, Louisville, FSU all have mediocre/bad defenses. Pitt has a bad O. They are toss ups, IMO.

EDIT: Duke is a bit like Pitt - but a touch better on O. I don't like our chances in that one for some reason.

They're not.

I just think that isn't a team who can slow us down in the Dome. They've played well vs PSU and UCF so its not an automatic W but we are going to score points against them.

I don't know where we are mentally 6 games in. Wish we had a home game like this sooner than week 8. WMU and HC don't count noone gives you credit for winning those.

Next year its the same thing maybe worse.

I hope you’re right. But I think it looks like the NC State game - but we finish that last drive and hit the FG we missed.
