How do we feel about spring game attendance this year?

Last year the staff went all out to promote the spring game
- Radio advertisements
- Twitter campaign by coaches
- Free food

And it still only pulled about 5,000. This year, I haven't seen much advertisement, and it's Easter weekend. I'm not optimistic for a good turn out. I think they could hold the game in the new practice facility with people standing on the sideline.

Will they be wearing the new orange unis on Saturday? That would be swell.

Shafer: Erv Phillips had a 40-yard run, Zaire Franklin played well, Rodney Williams with a nice stop. All in live period.

Shafer: Spring game will be essentially a practice. Scrimmage situations.

Shafer: No creative scoring system this year. Was pummeled for it last year.

Shafer: I don't put a lot of stock in the spring game. We won't show a lot. It'll be vanilla.

Shafer: Estime is back and will likely play. Trudo practiced but won't.

Shafer: We finished positional depth chart battles with today's practice. Nothing final until next year.

Shafer: Depth chart doesn't mean much now except competitive spirit.

Shafer: Key with Arciniega is keeping him healthy. Will take some snap management.

Shafer on big springs: Cornelius, Samuels, Bennett, Franklin, Williams, Hudson, Dowels. ... Heavy on youth.

Well, THAT will make folks want to attend.

Syracuse's first-team OL right now: LT Ivan Foy, LG Nick Robinson, C Kendall Moore, RG Aaron Roberts, RT Omari Palmer.

Rob Trudo is working his way back from a high-ankle sprain. Was back doing drill work today. Still no contact, though.

Shafer: WR Brisly Estime (ankle) is back participating in practice. Sounds like he'll be good to go for the spring game.

Syracuse RT Omari Palmer on rFr. RG Aaron Roberts, who's been running with the first team: "He's a nasty guy in the trenches."

Tim Lester said he's installed more than the 50% of his system he wanted to this spring. Around 70-80% but still mastering last 20-30%.

Syracuse's spring game will be a practice with some scrimmaging. No scoring system after offense vs. defense didn't go over well last year.

Terrel Hunt said purpose of spring game is to "practice and show the people what we have. Some people turn it into more than it is."

Terrel Hunt said he's been chatting with DBs through the spring about giving away tendencies/leans pre-snap.

Terrel Hunt said the pain in his leg, which he broke last year, still lingers. Time in offseason will help. He'll also get more treatment.

Terrel Hunt said offensive install has been smooth and simple thus far: "Last year we were a jack of all trades and a master of none."

Terrel Hunt: "We’re way further than we were last year; you could ask any player that. Everybody knows their job. They do their job right."

Terrel Hunt on O: "Last year we had a ton of plays that we were trying to run and nobody really knew how to run them. Now we’re on track."

Terrel Hunt said George McDonald just had more info in his install phases than Tim Lester. Some players got it, others didn't.

Terrel Hunt said the early start date for spring is nice because it gives players more time with new system even w/out coaches.

More Hunt on offense: "It’s just a different feel out there. Everybody’s confident in what we have to do. Everybody knows their job."

Terrel Hunt: "Coach McDonald wanted us to run a different type of offense. Sadly we didn’t have the tools that we needed for that offense."

For those wondering, DE Luke Arciniega was feeling under the weather today and did not come out for interviews.

Yea i don't know when the last time we had a real spring game was - divide up the players and play an evenly matched game. Put the players out there and see whos a gamer.

Part of the problem is the lack of safeties to go around. That said, HCSS certainly doesn't know how to entertain.

Seriously. It's almost like Shafer didn't want anyone to pay attention this Spring. Why the hell would you have the format this way? It's almost like he wants to alienate the fanbase. Regular practice with scrimmage sessions, and will run live plays in different situations. So stupid.

Sure does.

We were trying to run too many different plays.

Thought all along that was McDonald's problem.

Keep it simple.

I always recall, growing up in Jersey, a rival high school team would run 3-4 of the same plays over and over again.

And they did it so well, no one could stop them.

It's really hard to understand how these coaches don't understand simple is better. It seems like the teams that run a few plays really well vs. teams like Syracuse last year. who ran a million different plays in a million different formations are undefeated.
