3 more wins

U guys are the most pessimistic group going. There is a scenario that we actually get better as the season goes on and we start winning some games.

I think 3-4 wins will occur. Dino can coach and he’s managing weakness right now. I initially felt like this was a 1997 like season but now think it’s more 2012. I think we will be our best in November

1997 minus all the first round pick talent?

No offense but what exactly have you seen that says a big turnaround is coming. We just played probably the worst team left on our schedule and scored 10 pts, freeking 10 against an NC State that every team with a pulse has scored on at will. Not only that but Devito clearly is hurt and the injury will linger the entire season. If anything this offense is/has gotten worse over the last 2-3 weeks. I know last year still gives everyone hope but there is a lot of whistling past the graveyard going on around here right now.

I don't know where people are getting this "NC State was the worst team left on our schedule" stuff. They have a *good* defense. Ranked #34 in SP+, with the best run D in the ACC. 2nd in the conference in scoring defense. 4th in yards per play allowed.

This misconception leads to thinking the offense has gotten worse. I'm not making the case that it looked like it was getting better vs NC State. But it looked like the 80th ranked O vs the 34th ranked D, honestly. And we were 6 points away.

When you look at what NC State had on the field last Thursday they were clearly the worst team left on our schedule. They were missing what 4 or 5 starters and were starting a QB who basically hadn't played in 2 years and 2 true frosh at RB due to injuries.

They also lost by far their best CB in an already depleted secondary in the first half. This NC state also gave up 44 pts to WV and got blown out by FSU who has struggled all year. The D stats for them look good because they played a 1AA and two terrible teams in ECU and Ball State. Against WVU they gave up 44 and 31 to FSU. I know your a big Dino guy and I am to but you gotta call a spade a spade, that was a horrific loss.

I think you're discounting their D by a lot. 31 to FSU isn't so bad - they are averaging 30 points a game.

It's not me being a Dino guy - it's just the numbers. BC is the worst team left on the schedule and it's not particularly close.

I mean look is their D awful no absolutely not, but Again against the two other P5 teams they gave up 44 and 31 and that was I believe prior to the injuries that had occurred. Not saying we were playing Holy Cross or WMU defensively but this team should be able to put 24+ pts on that D we saw last Thursday no problem. Losing to that NC State team in the condition they were in that game is a real bad loss, there is no other way to spin it.

I'm not spinning anything - I just kept reading that they were some awful team and they are just like us and the rest of the ACC not named Clemson - mediocre (usually really bad at O or D and good at the other).

Your looking at them as a whole versus that Game. SU at full strength is a totally different team as well. The NC State team we played last Thursday was a shell of the one that started the year for them. Back up tackles, both RBs out, playing a QB who hadn't played in 2 years and a D that was hurt by injuries and lost by far their best corner (who wasn't that good to begin with) to injury in the 1st half. Last years SU team wins that game by 40+. Truth is that they were a bad team that game and we were somehow worse. Not giving on the year but again that was a bad NC State team that every portion of our team besides our offense pretty much dominated for 4 quarters save for one fluky TD despite the offense putting the D behind the 8 ball about a half dozen times. The fact we scored 10 pts against that team is beyond frightening, its an ginormous red flag.

I have no idea how to answer this at present. I mean there arent any unbeatable teams left. But there also arent any teams that we will likely beat the way our offense is currently functioning.

We can win anything between 0 and 6 games (my money is in the 2-4 range tho)

im going to be ballsy and say Pitt, BC, Lville, Duke, and Wake because we need it.

Ok, itll really just be BC.

They are awful on O and pretty good on D. Pitt is awful on O and really good on D. FSU is awful on D and good on O. Wake is awful on D and really good on O. That’s the reason they are all mediocre. I don’t know how to distinguish any of them from the others. Point is, they *may* be the worst team - but there are a lot of contenders. Us included.

But the silver lining is they can all be had.

Get ready for some awful ACC football!

They are a bad team that will be lucky to get to 6-6. As they start playing decent teams their stats will tumble. They have played no one and are 97th in passing D.

They play the same mediocre teams we play + Clemson. The stats I’m using are opponent adjusted.

I’m not saying they are a good team. I’m saying they are not the worst, as their defense is ok.

Their D is mediocre and their O is bad. I think 2-10 of the ACC is all the same. They are slightly below that.

That puts them in the mix - you just described most of the ACC (though some are reversed o/d).

They held us to a poor rushing total, but that makes sense since we are bad at it. FSU ran for a higher per run avg vs Clemson than NC St. They ran for 1.6 per attempt vs NC State.

Agree. We still haven’t lost to one of the 11 other mediocre ACC teams at home. And get 3 of those games.

If we lose to Pitt Friday then there will be little choice but to jump on the pessimist path.

Until then...
