So what is up with closing out on a 3-point shooter and running right underneath the shooters' shooting hand? It is comical when our players do that against a left-handed player...

A simple pump fake leaves the three point shot wide open, a mid-range jumper after a couple dribbles wide open...or even a lane to the hoop wide open. This "defensive strategy" seemed to emerge during the 08-09 season (or was it even before that?). I mean...its not even defense. Why not stay home on the shooter and front him? Bob Knight would roll over in his grave (and end up laying on his back (as far as the media is concerned)). Running through the shot does nothing...except potentially result in a foul which has happened more times than we would like this season.

Just curious...is this the "new norm"?

This flailing motion creates the illusion that we're actually trying to cover someone. Unfortunately it usually fools JB, because we never lose because of stuffty close outs on shooters.
