Both things are true. He had little help, and he is limited in terms of his own handle and ability to deal with presssure D.and most 2 guards have decent handles not incredibly awkward. JG3 had little help.
JB needs to track down Tim The Target Sullivan againHow can Symir not develop a J? He has elite talent handling the ball.. Hope an experienced teacher can work with him all spring, summer and fall. His future basketball earnings depend on it.
joe has a decent handle. he's an above average shooter. his assists are low imo.
but i don't criticize the effort or heart. just feel he was dealt a crummy hand by JB.
To the extent the evaporating leads were a product dead legs, which had to be a factor, absolutely. Problem was the Symir at the end of the year is a different player than we saw early.Obviously, it's too late now.
But for the first 10 or 12 games, Symir couldn't get off of the bench, it seemed. And when he played, he didn't do much. Then, he started getting some drives to the basket / layups to fall, and it was like all of the sudden he settled down. And JB seemed to quickly gain confidence in him.
The problem is, Buddy wasn't going to sit. Joe wasn't going to sit. And JB3 wasn't going to sit. So it was hard to work Symir in -- we get really small, which sucks for our defensive system. Today, we had no choice. But through the lens of hindsight, maybe the answer to our glaring lead guard problem was on the roster all along.
Back-to-back games with 9 or more assists. Solid ball handling and defense. And kid looks like he could be a double-figure scorer. There was no reason to let JG3 struggle against the press like he did for extended stretches, when this kid was capable of doing what he's shown lately.
I'm just very skeptical that anyone can improve that much. He was probably good a few months ago tooTo the extent the evaporating leads were a product dead legs, which had to be a factor, absolutely. Problem was the Symir at the end of the year is a different player than we saw early.
this record was the absolute floor for the season. Easily could (should?) have been eight games better. Gtown and Pitt and six blown double digit leads. This was a team with a very good to at times excellent offense that was missing a piece all year, just not the same one in every game. Boruma early, Jessie late. Benny not contributing until late in the year and then getting hurt. End of the year Symir not being the same player from the opening tip.

If the boeheims don't get in different kinds of trouble with fouls, he doesn't play and everyone would say, well, he must not be ready
Okit‘s not like he didn’t play.
He wasn’t as assertive and explosive as he was the last couple of games. If he was playing in games and practice at the same level he’s getting plenty of minutesOk
Cole isn't an ISO player. All his good shots came in the rhythm of ball movement. The ISO ball will only return if Cole comes back.
If I see ISO Joe, I'm done.
He wasn't going to get plenty of minutes this week until all the boeheim foul trouble! He wasn’t as assertive and explosive as he was the last couple of games. If he was playing in games and practice at the same level he’s getting plenty of minutes

I said the same exact thing. It was actually an easy rotation to figure out even for Mr non Rotation.
It is insane to be a pure jump shooting team and play every game with tired legs. You will fade at the end of every game.
Doesn't that make you think something else is going on there? I sometimes disagree with him but I always think he's so smart, I'll never waver in that, I think he's is really a geniusCoach used be a truly great talent evaluator, like upper echelon top 1% . He used to be so freaking good at finding and utilizing talent.
Now he has trouble evaluating what he has on his own bench. Back-to-back seasons where he had season-changing talent glued to the bench until his hand was absolutely forced to play the players.
Yes, it makes me think he is 77 years old. The guy was definitely a basketball savant, no question.Doesn't that make you think something else is going on there? I sometimes disagree with him but I always think he's so smart, I'll never waver in that, I think he's is really a genius
I don't see any mental decline. I think he wanted to maximize minutes for his kid and made some weird promises to Girard - it's the girard stuff I don't understand. It's like he knows girard is a 2g but since he can't put him there, he makes it up to him by giving him so many minutes at the 1Yes, it makes me think he is 77 years old. If you listened to comments about the AAU game vs Pennys team where Buddy and Joe went off and Roy Williams make some comments...that’s the genesis of all of this. it rained just as hard over buddy out top all season. rather bad D scheme for the HOF er.You must not watch him close out on shooters!
