43-26 really?

Hopkins in an earlier interview claims they don't waste their coaching on how to box out in the zone. But I noticed today on numerous occasions is that our opposite side wingman on shots would crash under the boards way too far and ran themselves out of rebounds that bounce out 5-6 feet off the rim.

I wish I didn't see what took place today.
I had to stop watching in the last 5 minutes - the turnovers, sloppy play, and lack of rebounding had me about ready to throw something through my TV.
I followed via live stats instead. If they'd pulled off a miracle finish, I would have gone back and watched it on the DVR.

One of the virtues of putting Richardson in Cooney's spot is that we've then got a front line of Lydon, Roberson and Coleman- with a 6-6, 6-7 backcourt. You want rebounds? That's how to get them.

I think this is a really telling quote... Meanwhile you have Izzo who is known for having rebounding drills where assistants use football style pads and his teams practice tip drills. Funny how his teams always seem to rebound well.

I hate to say it but it's time for new ideas, if not new coaches. We have gotten stale as a program like seems to happen at the tail end of a lot of historically famous coaches tenures. Hopefully next year with a fully loaded roster coach will get the team back to an elite level.

We'd "gotten stale" a decade ago, too. Then came 2010-2014. I don't think we'll be stale next year.

I would argue 2010-2014 was more about having elite nba talent and the overall suckiness of college hoops than anything new about the system. Waiters and Wes made this team special... The fact that college hoops is terrible made the final four run. Fast forward to a few years later when we play in a really good conference that plays a bit better than the old big east and we have marginal nba talent and the system doesn't work.

Next year is must win... If we don't have a solid year not sur when we will again

Then I guess it doesn't count.

One other point... Our system on D is great and has innovated over the years... The problem is on the offensive side where we are pretty poor and have been unless we have elite nba talent... Melo, Wes, Dion. Rak and MCW and Ennis were are all nba players but the o still sucked.

It counts for the record but I wasn't talking about the record I'm talking about new ideas on both sides and we haven't had any in a long time so we are at the mercy of how other teams execute and if we have an elite nba player.

It's tough to look good on offense when you don't have a point guard. This is two years in a row and we don't have one next year either. I'm tired of combo guards who don't know how to run an offense. This team is very unathletic too. Great athletes are quick, strong, and powerful. This doesn't describe a single player on this team. People say Roberson is athletic. I don't see it. He has weak hands and very little power. He jumps ok but isn't very skilled. He can't shoot or handle the ball.

cooney is taking a beating on the board, but roberson has been atrocious for like a month+.

Roberson has been more of an enigma than usual of late. I'm really just not sure what to think of it.

Early in the year he was often far too tentative, as in years past, and seemed to be holding himself back.

For a bit he seemed less tentative, more agressive, and like he possibly turned a corner.

Now, he doesn't seem as tentative as early in the year, but just generally uninspired, or at least lacking in explosiveness. Even when he wasn't getting rebounds it seemed like he was in the fight, now, not so much.

  • I think, he thinks, it does. He never develops a bench and every year we see dead legs but he doesn't. This, I believe, plays into the notion that Syracuse under performs in the Tournament too frequently.
JB is a dinosaur. Never will change.

Wouldn't have mattered yesterday or many games. Look at yesterday's rebounding stats.

How does looking at yesterday's rebounding stats suggest that a different lineup wouldn't matter?

Because it would have made no difference yesterday and on the year little.

Waiters and Wes were not on the same team.

for most of the game we play a guard at forward and a forward at center. we've been out rebounded all season ???? hmmm...

That's my point... We have had good teams only when we have elite nba talent and our opponents are terrible offensively so they can't beat the zone. Wes and Dion were on our three most talented teams in the recent past. Yes the final four team made it the farthest but that team played great d and got lucky that college hoops sucks. It's no coincidence that our records against teams with talent equal to us and know how to play hoops (i.e. Most of the ACC) aren't that great compared to those teams who just throw the ball up and pray for the rebound and thug it up on d (i.e. Most of the old be)

I think there is a nagging injury there. The alternative is that he's done - doesn't give a shyte and has no use for JB anymore. I really hope it's an injury.

I followed the entire affair via live stats. Sometimes it's a blessing to not have a live feed, it seems.
I agree. I followed on WAER. Just as frustrating. I even threw a brick through the TV. LOL
