49-36

This could be the darkest days of SU hoops we've seen in a while, and will see for some time. A bad team this year, a seemingly weak recruiting class next year...

On the other hand, ON PAPER this team has tons of talent and if they can just start to put it together, we will be fine.

And that 49 includes 15-16 early season gimme's...Colgate 3 times, cornell twice, holy cross twice, elon, kennesaw, montana st, etc...
Sub .500 against good competition is what is the most telling stat then. There are major issues on the hill, and I think that the head coach may have stuck around a bit too long. Also why would JAB announce that he is retiring in 3, count them 3 seasons. You want to know why recruiting is bad? Its because all the big named guys we go after are also getting recruited by the likes of John Calapari, Coach K, Roy Williams, Sean Miller. All guys that can win and are big named head coaches. These kids know JAB is leaving in 1 or 2 years, why would they want to go play for an unproven head coach like Mike Hopkins. JAB really screwed up when he announced his retirement in 3 seasons, who the hell does that anyway?

Someone forced to by the NCAA as a part of sanctions?

That's a good point and it's been surprisingly glossed over. Usually a coach just announces at the beginning or end of a season that he is done. Sure there would always be some speculation that JB might not be around for a given recruit, but publicly advertising it 3 years out was an idiotic PR move. The only person that truly had need-to-know was Hop. The fans and everyone else could wait and continue to speculate all they wanted. I'd be curious to see if this timing correlated with the recruiting downturn that we've seen.

Much better offensive players and coaches in the ACC, IMO. 25-0 should never be brought up again since it is irrelevant, but, as others have indicated our record since then has not been what Syracuse should be achieving. The recruiting and/or player development generally is subpar IMO and with JB not showing he can run competent offense these days; we are what we are. Whatever he is trying to instruct isn't working. I just don't how much of it is on the limits of the players or whether the scheme is impossible to run against good competition these days.
