Beats Siena for the MAAC title in OT. I would say we will end up playing them, but with travel such a consideration, we will probably get Bryant instead.
Didn't know that. Cool!we are the first team in NCAA history to beat Cornell, Princeton, Virginia, and Johns Hopkins all in ONE season.
I'm thinking it's 400 miles.Bryant cannot bus to UNC, NCAA rules do not allow teams to travel that far by motor coach. They must fly if over certain distance, not 100% sure of mileage.
If Bryant couldn't bus to North Carolina if they were the 2 seed then the 3 seed would get an easier first round game than the 2 seed which would not be fair for the committee to do. A #2 seed North Carolina shouldn't play Loyola first round while #3 Notre Dame got a 5-9 Detroit team that would be grossly unfair. Bryant and Detroit are the teams for the top 2 seeds. Detroit would make sense for Notre Dame/Denver if they were the 2 seed, and Bryant would then go to Syracuse the 1 seed, but if North Carolina was the 2 seed after Syracuse I think Detroit is closer to Syracuse than Chapel Hill so you have them go to the Dome, and Bryant go down from RI to NC.Bryant cannot bus to UNC, NCAA rules do not allow teams to travel that far by motor coach. The committee has travel restrictions it has to take into consideration when putting together 1st round matchups. That's why the top 8 teams are seeded, and the bottom 8 aren't. They make these matchups based (at least partially) on distance traveled. Might not be 'fair', but that's the way it is.If Bryant couldn't bus to North Carolina if they were the 2 seed then the 3 seed would get an easier first round game than the 2 seed which would not be fair for the committee to do. I think this makes as much sense as anything. Final draw will look close to this.I understand that and maybe you juggle it around at the bottom, but the worst 2 teams Detroit and Bryant need to play the top 2 seeds or then just draw teams out of a hat and do that way. If only 2 teams can take an air-flight then as long as Denver qualifies for the tournament each year they will drain that slot and cause a lot of havoc on the rest of matchups.
I think Syracuse, Notre Dame, Denver, North Carolina are locks for home games. Ohio State, Maryland, Duke are pretty solid for first round home games. That leaves Penn State, Cornell, Albany competing for that 8th seed. I think either Cornell-Albany get that 8 seed and they play each other next week.
Penn State is 195 miles from College Park. I think sending Penn State there to Maryland works. Sending Loyola is 297 miles from Duke there is another matchup. Bethlehem is 450 miles from Columbus and that is certainly drivable for Lehigh to play Ohio State.
That leaves Towson, Yale, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Detroit, Bryant, Denver, North Carolina. I think the easiest solutions are having Yale fly out to Denver and use the flight. Sending Detroit to Notre Dame, Bryant to Syracuse, and that leaves Towson-North Carolina. For this to work I would "make" Notre Dame the 2 seed if the committee believes North Carolina is the 2 seed and just give them the 3 seed.
1. Syracuse vs. Bryant
2. Notre Dame vs. Detroit
3. North Carolina vs. Towson
4. Denver vs. Yale
5. Ohio State vs. Lehigh
6. Maryland vs. Penn State
7. Duke vs. Loyola
8. Albany vs. Cornell
As noted, there were 3 flights last year. And, with so many teams now coming from the "West" (ND, OSU, Denver, Detroit), the committee will have to show flexibility.I understand that and maybe you juggle it around at the bottom, but the worst 2 teams Detroit and Bryant need to play the top 2 seeds or then just draw teams out of a hat and do that way.
