What normally happens in situations like this is that the new institution takes the date the original institution was started as their start date. That did not happen in this case. Which I have a problem with. Anyway, Genesee College was founded in 1831. Kudos to whoever knew that and used that date as the founding date for the barber shop (instead of the 1870 date that college moved to Syracuse). That should be the true date SU was founded.
