6 minutes of us when we could shoot! 29 threes in 2 games……

We just had trouble defending/rebounding. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again….. Kadary at the 1, Joe at the 2, Buddy at the 3 would have been something. As long as we had some size at the 4 and 5.

Actually if Flynn, Devo, Rautins had someone like DC on the team the year they lost to Oklahoma they probably would have won it all. Griffith wouldn't have had a career game and probably would have spent a lot of time watching in foul trouble.

That team got in by the skin of their teeth as an 11 seed and should have been better than they were in the regular season.

KR at 1 Buddy at 2, JG splits mins at 1 and 2. I even forget about Allen Griffin the transfer from Illinois who JB refused to play at the 2 because, well ya know, Buddy.
Edwards should have played more at the 5 with Marek seeing less time at the 5. I was frustrated with rotations that year.

I was rooting for Dolezaj to have foul trouble, because that would force JB to put Edwards in. That was the season where I started losing faith in the old man.

I stayed convinced JB was seeing something I didn't understand...that season. But it was definitely the start of cracks in my faith.

Same on Dolezaj. He used to rave about his passing ability for a Center, but I kept saying to myself he's not a Center for the defensive side.

For me it kinda started with Frank Howard being suspended before the NCAAT. After the Fab Melo dabocle, I couldn't believe something similar could happen again on his watch. And then the next year Buddy was starting and playing 34 mins as a sophomore, that's when I knew this program was in trouble.

If you go back we only had really great 3 point shooting teams a few times even in our best years. Every handful of years basically.

We can talk zone and recruiting and a hundred other things when the downward trend started but don’t appear we have valued the 3 in CNY.

Might have to put on the job posting must be able to portal in 3 point shooters.

We had that in 22 w Joe, Buddy, Swider and Jimmy Jr.
Problem was it was maybe the slowest and least above the rim team in JB history.

Buddy wasn't the problem. Even as a freshman Buddy was a better player than expected, and a positive contribution, even defensively.

The problems with 2019-2020 were:

1) Girard being the only point guard. The recruiting miss of Carey was catastrophic.
2) Dolezaj playing too much center. Edwards should have played more, backing up Sidibe.
3) The entire team was a negative defender; Edwards would have helped provide size and ability to block shots.
4) Rebounding. Even Jalen Carey was a better rebounder than Dolezaj... Edwards was better than most even as a freshman.

Everything bad about that team came down to PG and Center. JB made center worse by trying to make up for bad PG play by putting Dolezaj in at center. If Sidibe and Edwards were out there, we stop getting pounded on the boards, can play decent defense inside and Dolezaj could have been very helpful playing forward, his natural position.

Brycen Goodine and Howard Washington both got more minutes than Edwards that season. Pushing everybody down the line by playing Edwards would have solved all the problems with that season. A rotation of Sidibe/Edwards, Dolezaj/Guerrier, Hughes, Buddy, Girard would have worked.

Instead, Edwards sat the bench and Dolezaj played out of position 25 minutes a game, and was completely overpowered game after game.

Agree with all of that. I was looking at it from a big picture, competing for ACC, national title aspirations. That wasn't going to happen with Buddy being thrust into that role. On the teams from just a few years prior, Buddy would have been an 8th man, a la Cooney, 3pt specialist off the bench not a 35 mins a game starter that he became. I saw it as Jim just mailing in the Recruiting aspect to no longer get anywhere near a championship level roster. Buddy was better than I expected as a player but not anywhere close to being good enough from where SU used to be.

Well, sure, if we could add an all-time great to a roster, I think we have several past teams that could have won it all.

Griffin was wildly inconsistent and seemed to have more bad games than good from what I can remember. Don't think Buddy at the 2 over him was entirely a nepotism move. Agree on Edwards.
