7 man rotation for close games

I think Southerland's lack of playing time was mostly a result of Marquette's tight man. Hopefully we'll see more of him against Pitt and Louisville, but those games could be very similar.

You have this exactly right. Southerland will play more minutes in games where his skills are needed - games where our guys are given room to shoot. When we play teams that pressure you and dare you to drive to the basket, Southerland will sit in favor of Joseph and Fair. That only makes sense.

To me we are 9 deep, because we have 9 guys who can play and play well if needed - that is the true test of how deep you are. There are only so many minutes in a game, and Boeheim is going to go with the match ups that are most favorable on that particular night. Christmas and Jones are not ready for big minutes so they are not a part of our depth. The rest of the guys should be counted.

Scoop = 5th year senior. Good or bad, he has seen it all.
MCW = not quite ready for prime time yet

Eh...still think he could've done some good against these little guys. Other highly-touted freshmen guards are having to play the Marquettes of the world. Baptism by fire and it's still early in the season.

Maybe so, but that is not how JB rolls.

He was a half step slower than anyone else out there today .. Marquette was just too quick for him.

BTW, that was a real good team we beat.

The same goes for Williams as goes for Southerland - he's the slowest of the four guards and has the shakiest handle against pressure. Marquette is not the opponent for him - not, at least, if it's a tight game.

Would have been a really bad game for MCW to be in. Could you imagine him getting pushed around by DJO? yikes.

That's clear now. If we're in a closer game we won't see Southerland, XMas or MCW. It'll be Scoop-Triche-Dion-KJ-Fair-BMK-Fab..

South is inconsistent so I'm not as concerned with his erratic PT.

MCW, on the other hand, should never be DNP. He has shown enough and deserves just as much of an opportunity to help this team - regardless of the opponent -- and especially when Scoop and/or Triche struggle against on-the-ball pressure. They will need his skill set come March.

I might be the only one...but I thought outside of a couple wide open threes he hit, Joseph was pretty below average in nearly every phase yesterday. He had a handful of some of the worst turnovers I have seen.
