8/10/15 Practice # 2

Shafer: we look forward to getting after Blair hard and getting him back in two years.

Shafer said Blair was high character kid, worth the risk. Did not blame NCAA and praised organization for protecting integrity of classes.

shafer on test week: 19 guys benched 400, a few did 500. Praised Ben Lewis.

shafer also praised scores of Estime and Morgan. Said Estime is "back to being the guy we're excited about playing."

shafer: Credits 3-9 team for not cracking apart. Believes team has good chemistry.

shafer says team is having a veteran practice with a freshman practice at the end. Team doing fewer reps, more coaching.

Shafer said extra time allows for a little extra conditioning and body maintenance.

Shafer said he's hoping they are practicing smarter this year. Fewer reps but believes more quality.

Shafer said lack of Estime on punt return last year was all health-related. Team had to decide what snaps were important on ankle sprain.

Whoa, the guy has double knee replacement a little over a month ago and he's strutting around? Wow.

Scott Shafer sharing tonight that highly-touted safety recruit Marquise Blair "came up short" with the NCAA. Will go to junior college.

Shafer said S Cordy had an interception return for a touchdown in today's practice. Lauded many young other DBs.

Shafer on Estime: "Brisly's back." Made two diving catches in practice, looked comfortable catching punts.

Shafer: Practice schedule has shifted to slightly fewer reps, more teaching. Veterans first, then extra hands-on work with 3s/4s/frosh.

... Shafer says system creates "a sense of calm among freshmen, so they're not overwhelmed." "Not a whole lot" of freshman in first group.

Shafer: Goal is to be "as fresh and as fast as we've ever been in an opener."

Shafer said Brisly made two diving catches. Wasn't happy he was diving with no pads, but did they were impressive.

Shafer spoke highly of Jacob Hill, a new walk-on RB. Said we'll all grow to like him in the future.

That's AC, McFarlane, Cam(?!!), Erv, and Ishmael as your first team skill guys.

Nothing against Cam, but that doesn't bode well if your transfer walk-on (I know he got a scholly today) really is the starting TE.

I've begged by Ortho to give me a double knee replacement but he insists I wait another 10 years. :(

my wife is in the same boat. Have you tried the various injections (cortisone & chicken fat)?

If you can be back up and walking in 30 days like smith, get it done. I'm sure it will improve your quality of life.

Parris and Cam were the top 2 TE's on the pre-fall depth chart. Maybe Parris had to sit out a play for one reason or another.

I get Orthovisc shots every 6 months to 2 years depending on when I start getting pain. When I had my last knee surgery around the age of 40, my Ortho told me I had the knees of a 70 year old. :(

You know what's been the best cure? Squats, done properly. I can't really jog or jump, but I can deep squat. Just got a rower so I can do low impact warm-ups instead of hitting the pool.

As mentioned by my peers, Shafer confirmed the NCAA deeming Marquise Blair ineligible. He'll go to JUCO.

A couple freshmen are mixing in with the veterans in that first practice. Shafer expects more will once pads come on.

RB Jacob Hill is a walk-on. He's short, but has good feet and vision. Smart kid who comes from Detroit, Mich.

Shafer said QBs going under center a bit is just typical warm-ups. Doesn't rule out using it, but something that happens daily.

I get those synthetic viscosity injections also... I refer to it as "a lube job" for my knees.
