98-68

The score after SU’s 17-2 start. Once Colgate stopped rushing their shots they completely dominated the game. That is scary.

I'll open by saying I still think we may win the ACC.

However, this was not a great performance. I really thought this one would flow like Drexel and we could flip a switch and dominate the second half. At no point did we seem to have the ability to stop them from getting a high percentage shot though. Which seems to be a pattern now.

If that keeps up we're just going to have to hope and pray that teams miss their way into losing to us, or turn the ball over at an insane rate. Drexel provided that relief in the second half last week, but it's not going to always happen - especially if teams are getting offensive rebounds against us.

Notably, we don't seem to have the defensive chops to make that turnovers happen though, so it's likely coming down to shootouts.

Win THE ACC!? Or win in the ACC?

I can buy the later, but the ACC doesn't look good this year

I still like this team but I never thought we would win the ACC. And to say the least, today did nothing to change my mind on that.

Win the ACC? That’s a hot take there.

The second half reminded me of the notorious 2016 St. John's game, getting 'boat-raced' by what I thought was an inferior team. They beat us like we used to beat Colgate.

That said, I think the over-used term "wake up call" may apply to this. Early in the season a team with a lot of new players and first time starters can be easily convinced that they are better than they are and getting off to that 17-2 star might have bene the worst thing that could have happened to our team. When you've been humbled, you start listening to the coaches. It might put us in the right frame of mind to surprise people in the Bahamas.

Colgate

At home.

I thought this year could be different than the past due to offensive prowess, but the defense and rebounding is so bad it may be beyond saving.

Nothing changes until the old man retires. Sad reality.

We didn’t get to shooters and rebound anywhere close to acceptable but you guys don’t give Colgate enough credit. This team can flat out ball. Great shooters and really good bangers inside

They lost to Cornell & NC State.

We lost to them by 15 and it really was never in doubt.

Sorry, but if we are anything but a bubble team, we win this game. Or at the very least, are competitive in the last 5 minutes.

You cannot even remotely make those estimations yet. There is a sliver of difference between team no 1 and team 160. Let’s see how the next couple of weeks play out

Are you watching the St. Bonaventure game? If you don’t see the difference, I don’t know what to say. And that’s St. Bonaventure.

Yes, you can 100% be certain what’s going to happen after 3 games. Fans do it every year and the H0T Takes in November and December are always right.

St. Bonaventure has better players than Syracuse.

Colgate has a better team than Syracuse.

Both of those things are not H0T Takes.

Yes, you can extrapolate that after one game. Our players are completely incapable of playing better. How teams play in November will 100% predict how the season plays out every year and it always works that way!

Our team is the least athletic SU team in my 40+ years watching Syracuse basketball .. we haven’t seen athletes this pedestrian since the post Wallace rock Lloyd team .. having said that .. they are highly skilled as well .. one of the more highly skilled teams we’ve had in terms of shooting.
Those two attributes lend itself to the following
-we can get beat by anyone and badly
-we can beat anyone and badly
