It is the second consecutive bowl appearance for the Orange and its third in four years.
Unlike the previous trips to the Pinstripe Bowl, Syracuse had to find a bowl partner outside the parameters of its conference. It touted its alumni bases and geographic reach in the Northeast in discussions with the ACC and bowl reps this week to further drive home the likelihood of drawing in a big TV viewership.

"Daryl told me don't worry about the bowl and he went to work," Shafer said. "He didn't want to settle for something that wasn't the best for our kids, and I appreciate the hard work he put in and our administration. I told him, 'Hey, you've been doing this a lot longer than I have.' He said, 'Don't worry, I'm going to get you the best bowl possible,' and I believe he did."

Syracuse football coach Scott Shafer sent a group text to his players at 8:45 p.m., telling them the Orange would be headed to the Texas Bowl.
"Immediately there was a lot of response and a lot of excitement," Shafer said. "I'm really excited for our senior class. They've put their blood, sweat and tears on that practice field and in the Dome. I was just happy to be playing another game. I was excited to see where it would be. It was great to see Minnesota and the Big Ten."

Among the week's festivities that he most eagerly anticipated, Shafer mentioned the Rodeo Bowl, an event held on Dec. 23 that kick-starts Syracuse's scheduled time in Houston.
In that event, named by Sports Illustrated as one of the best bowl activities, the teams will compete against each other in traditional rodeo events. Shafer, who like many coaches doesn't like to delve too deeply into game plans in advance, didn't mind sharing what he had formulated for Houston. "Some of our players get a chance to lasso some calves or something," Shafer said. "I've already got a short list. Josh Kirkland might be good at that coming out of Kansas. Drew Allen, we might need him to teach these guys how to tie a lasso as well as throw a lasso. He'll be a big part of the game-plan there."

haha gotta love Shaf

Third bowl in four years, remarkable.

Great job by all involved. There was nothing certain about that ever happening again.

Now onto bigger and better things.

12/27 is the first game of the 2014 season. I think that GMac worked out the formula with the BC game plan. Play fast, spread the ball around, don't be afraid to run the QB.

String ties for everyone.

Definitely agree about running the QB-That was my question (Can you see us running the QB more to put more pressure on the Defense) to the Scott Shafer show before the BC game.

I was really struck by Terrel's statement after BC that he is truly now learning the game.

I saw some of that during the BC game.

I'm expecting more in three weeks and I think it will make a difference in three weeks.

I now understand better just how much it means to have experience at QB.

And contrary to Penn State and NW we now have that experience.

Hopefully it will make a difference.

I think that was due to being 5-6 and not having anything to lose by potentially getting his QB beat up. I expect the same in the bowl but that is my theory on why we didn't run Hunt more prior.
