With around 5:30 left in the 2nd Qtr., we were up 21-10 and after Simmons INT, we had a chance to really put WF in a hole. Up until this point we had been moving the ball well on the ground, so I was envisioning a long, clock-consuming drive to end the half, and getting the ball again to start the 2nd half. Instead, we go 3-and-out (with 2 incomplete passes), and after a 33 yd punt, WF drives for a TD to cut our lead to 21-17.

Thanks for the reminder!

It was also unfortunate the wideout made that tackle. Otherwise we get the return to like the 30 or so I would guess. I said in the game thread, if we punt here wake will have better field position than before the pick!

AGREE! I was thinking that Schwartzwalder, Mac, Marone and P would have kept it on the ground….like you say…and run out the clock with a score. Chit play calling, IMHO.

I specifically recall you saying that in the GDT...and you were correct.

Well that 5:30 also included the decision to accept the penalty giving them a chance to score a TD, which they did. As I’ve said a bunch, even if their kicker hits a career high, they would have still been down by 2 scores. Instead of the 4 points going in to the half, huge momentum difference. Also, if we force them to try the FG there, even if they miss we get a chance the ball back with a chance to negate the FG at least. If they miss the FG we have great field position.
