A down year for the BE?

All season long the critics and analyst have claimed that the BE is down overall this year, not as good as last year and overrated. The BE is poised to tie or possibly set the new record for teams advancing to the Sweet 16. I know the committee did us all a favor by not having BE matchups in the round of 32 but if we do get 5 or 6 teams in the Sweet 16, I'll have to argue that there was nothing "down" about the BE at all. I suppose some may say that the overall quality of teams nationally is down, leading to more favorable matchups but I think it illustrates just how tough and what a grind the conference really was this year. I'm truly going to miss that when we get to the ACC.

I think the Big East was down compared to past seasons, but that doesn't mean it was a bad conference. It certainly wasn't as good this year as when 5 teams made it to the Elite 8.

Jury's out.

So far, the Big East has followed the seedings, except South Florida upset Temple and ND lost in an upset to Xavier. G-town struggling with a #11 seed. We might get 5 into the sweet 16, and then will see.

I think the BE was down. But that image was largely fashioned by early season games. BE has many good coaches and players, and most of those teams improved pretty steadily over the course of the season. So it's a bit deceiving.
