… too bad we weren't a part of this weekend.

And though I've said it here before, today reinforced how screwed the Ivies were this year. The Yale - Penn game had no business being a quarterfinal.

To my own surprise, I realized today that Penn State isn't my least favorite team.

My choice for champion in order is:

1. Yale
2. UVa
3. Penn State
4. Duke

I hope to God the final isn't Duke and Penn State.

PSU-Penn would have been great . Mouthy Yale is unlikeable, here is to PSU tasing care of them. UVA is better than Duke, will not matter. Expect Duke-PSU final. Ill root for ACC teams.

Duke-several NJ kids
UVA-Conrad who got screwed by NCAA
PennState-

I can only tolerate UVA winning it all.

1.) Yale - like Shay but I don't want them to win back-to-back.
2.) Duke - They've already won too many titles this decade.
3.) PSU - Tambroni's great but it's State Penn FFS.

UVA has been down for a long time. Watching them ride a #22 to a title gives me hope that we will get back to winning the Orange Invitational soon.

I agree with Quint that last weekend (and this season) has been a great step in the right direction regarding pace of play thanks to the shot clock.

I'd like to ask him if all of the "purists, administrators and some coaches" who were opposed to the addition of a shot clock were mostly based in Maryland because I haven't met many lacrosse enthusiasts from CNY, WNY, LI, or HV who were against it.

And the game is still over-coached because the shot clock is too long (should be 60 seconds or less).

Make it a 60 or 45 second shot clock if the game is truly to be given back to the players. Until then, the free flowing nature of the game will continue to be diminished by coaching induced specialization.

I'm grateful the first step was finally taken in 2019. I hope the game continues to evolve from a coach joystick-ing players through specialization to watching players compete.

/end rant

How about this for the clock - If you get possession in your end, you get 80 (20 to clear and 60 to shoot). If you get possession, for any reason, in the other team's end, you only get 60. This is in line with the change that b-ball is making, you only get 20 seconds on the shot clock reset when you get an offensive rebound.

I would like to see the shot clock reset to 60 seconds and keep the initial shot clock at 80 seconds with 20 seconds to clear. I agree that the reset to 80 seconds is too long, but having a true shot clock has been a marked improvement.

I want 60 with a 30 second reset. Anything that prevents a coach from trotting out specialists.

I would like it to flow more like hockey's line changes rather than hold the ball for 20 seconds while specialists sub on/off.

You want to eliminate LSM's?

And if stick technology is going to remain impossible to dislodge the ball then go back to allowing 6 long sticks on the field (not what i prefer).

Bigger population areas, like suburban Philly, are going to continue to outpace smaller communities (like CNY) as the game is becoming more like football (bigger, stronger, faster athletes wins) by requiring less stick skill.

Stick skills used to be a huge differentiator (or equalizer depending on POV) and are less so today.

Anything that encourages up and down action is fine by me.

No, I want to give them a chance to play offense. If teams are going to continue to double-pole faceoffs then let them mark each other in settled 6v6.

Don't want your LSM playing offense then don't put him on a wing or make him stand by midfield and play 5v5.

Edit - I'd like to get rid of defense vs offense specialization. If teams sub one LSM on/off per middie line then i'm fine with that. One player vs three doesn't slow the game down as much.

Good points!!!

My favorite lacrosse "theory" of all time was how much the action would speed up if we got rid of the substitution horn. At the end of the life of the horn, they were blowing it every time the ball went over the sideline. I am hard-pressed to remember 3 or 4 instances total (let alone in one game) when substitutes came in when the horn blew. The people the coaches wanted to play were already in the game!

Then make it possible to dislodge the ball. Straight sidewalls, no larger than 2" at their widest part. No offset. The "bags" everyone complains about are caused by the huge sidewalls, not that the pocket mesh hangs down. The rule about some part of the ball's being blocked from the ref's view by the sidewall for the pocket to be legal hasn't changed.

The stick companies have previously said that they'd have no problem with a rules change because everyone would have to buy new sticks and it's not tremendously expensive to make the new head molds. So, the idea that "the stick companies would go bonkers" is not a valid reason.

Amen! Keep preachin'!!

The first thing I thought of when Tigh slipped and got up to score the game winner for Yale was that fishing net can't be legal or he thumb'd it (which it looks like he might've done).

Go back to superlight IIs and we'll see how good the stick skills are. I agree above that they've made it impossible to dislodge the ball and I personally hate it. Change the head rules. The pinched sticks are ridiculous.

Regarding shot clock, I don't like that a losing team at the end of a game has a shot clock but I'm not sure how to reconcile this. I guess it's good to reward the defense for not allowing good shots by the team that needs to score. I'll get used to it.

But I love the sped up pace of play and the high scoring. Lacrosse was meant to be a high scoring game.

The games have been incredible so far. Had a chance to see Loyola get dropped yesterday in person and the amazing Penn/Yale game.

As much as I wish we were there - seeing it up close, I don’t think we would have had a shot against PSU - their offense is insane. More concerning, most of their key guys are back next year.

Nothing disgusts me more than pedo st anything but I can handle pigskin and hoops since they've had them forever I hate Big Ten lax to begin with but and them winning it all in lax and us blowing a lead to play them to try and prevent it and get back to Memorial Day driving distance from me would drive me insane. Rooting hard for Yale.

I do not want to see UVA or Duke have any success during this embarrassing period for SU when we can't win jack in the tournament despite having solid teams.
