A Look at Next Season…

Biggest needs for me: Edge, LB, Center, QB. No particular order but definitely those 4.
I think edge is less of priority in the portal knowing that they recruited KJE, Caden Brown (legacy), and 6 dline recruits this year. Obviously they won’t pass up someone whose game changer. (Also two freshman maned the inside all year so another year of development in weight room for those two and we are much better upfront).

LB - YES. Go out and get a game changer here. Easier said than done but need some significant improvement in speed and athleticism. Hopefully a few guys from Georgia and Texas AM transfer and want to be w Fran and ERob.

Center - upfront help please!!!

I expect us to bring in a QB but not as a guaranteed starter like Kyle but for competition and back up. My money is on Jakari winning the job.
We are set at WR DB and DT, TE. In order we need to find a center, LBs, and the afore mentioned QB.
Obviously if we have a chance to upgrade the Oline that is a plus. I dont expect Fran to let go any coaches but i do expect one or two to take better jobs. Probobly Nunzio and Nixon. The only reason for Nixon to stay might be in order to coach his son unless he were to transfer to the school that hires his Dad. I also think that if Nixon were to leave Coach Nunz might be elevated to OC.
I believe continuity in staff is as important as player retention and the more i look at our staff including our Oline coach and Special teams coach i think they both stay. Next year is a meat grinder but if we can retain our key players, Have LA come back and figure out the QB situation we are going to be a very tough out.

They have some young unproven edge talent for sure. I think one experienced senior might be good.

Quick first pass at the two deep for 2025…

QB: J Williams/L Carney or Johnson Jr Will we bring in an experienced QB from the portal?
RB: L Allen/Y Willis or W Nixon I assume Allen is returning….
WR: T Pena/E Ross
WR: Z Haynes/D Gill Jr
WR: J Ross-Simmons/J Hornsby or U Hatcher
TE: J Tremble/D Clement
OT: D Wohlabaugh or D Weatherspoon/T Mack
OG: J Cruz/C Hornsby
C: E Stewart/? I would expect a center to be added from the portal
OG: E Cruz/N Rosahac
OT: S Washington/J Miller I assume Washington will be returning for his final year of eligibility

DE: D Jaquez Jr/C Simmons
DT: M Watson or K Jobity
DT: R Perry/I Hastings
DE: K Joseph-Edwards/D Omopariola
LB: J Heard or A Sparrow or J Lesaine Jr
LB: D McDonald or K Moultrie-Goddard or C Brown
STAR: D Grant/J Gould
CB J Bellamy/I McDaniels or G Delaine
CB: M Barnes/D Kerr or M Washington Jr
FS: D Chestnut/C Perry
BS: B Buxton/B Long
.
PK: J Kennedy/B Denaberg
P: J Stonehouse/J Kennedy
KO: B Denaberg/J Kennedy
KOR: M James/Y Willis
PR: T Pena/L Allen
LS: J Zuhr/E Stangle
On the DL we’ll see if they want to play a three or four man front. If they go four I can see Jobity as the hand in the dirt end. Lysander might be able to develop into a legit 30 snap a game DT to go with Watson, Perry, Hastings. There is still EFC and Xavier Miles is redshirting 6-3 315. Same profile as Lysander

If we want to be any where near what we did this year we had better bring in an experienced QB from the portal and a good one.

I love this potential team. There is a lot of opportunities. For the transfer prospects; I think we all will be surprised.

I would be shocked if we lose a coach this year that isn’t a force out. I expect the SPT coach to be looking for another gig as soon as the season ends.

Why can't we get a rookie for a backup, or starter... and also use the talents we got?

This program isn’t one or two players away from being highly competitive against next years schedule. It’s two or three years away.

I’d work the plan and not spend a lot of resources chasing an extra win against a very hard schedule.

To win at a high level next year need an NFL potential left side of the OL, high end edge rusher, and a pair of NFL potential safeties, along with a draft projected Qb.

Zero chance he starts the season as the starter.

Running scout team is a lot different than playing in a game. He has zero in game experience.

Not having a veteran QB entering next season would be insane.
Zero?

I love how everyone is assuming we get a vet QB in the portal. From all reports Jakhari is killing it as second string. Why not run him out there with the schedule we have. It’s gonna be a tough year, but will benefit from it and give us three more years as the man. Next year is a pass given the gauntlet.
Very important to have more than one capable QB on the roster. It's very unusual over the past 10-15 years of SU football that our starting QB starts and completes the season healthy. McCord this year is literally the first time doing that since 2012 Nassib.

We need more at DT for depth.

We need two different starting LBs.

OL needs an overhaul.

QB - guessing us getting a vet is dependent on who we can get. If there is a top flight vet QB, I bet Fran will get him.

The schedule next year is brutal. Have to be ready from day one.

Linebacker matters the most in terms of the transfer portal. Plus lines.

also depends if we prioritize throwing QBs vs. running. Running involves more injury risk. Plus Kyle gets rid of the ball so quickly -- saw an ESPN article that ranked him one of the best in terms of release timing.

center is my top pick
I dont have a good feel for the younger guys and who will be ready to contribute on the line next year. Hopefully Miller will be one of them, along with some other guys. I wonder if Hornsby can play center, too.

I do know that LB is one where we should be able to fill through the portal a lot easier than OL.

I'm assuming this is a joke, but that would be a hilarious bridge too far after an 8 or 9 or 10 win season.
outside of wax who we’re losing, LB and safety play have been a very weak link.

Zero?
It would be a lot to ask a redshirt freshman, who's never played a snap of college football to start against Tennessee, in a neutral site game. Let alone all the other tough road games next year.

I'm not saying to not give him any run but just to anoint him the starter seems wild.

Bring in a G5 or experienced p4 quarterback as an insurance policy/competition.

aside from QB, I really think D line is the most glaring need going into next year. With that schedule u have to be able to control the lines, I don’t think we can play those top tier teams with an average to below average D line.

Best part of this thread is that it was created just before our last game. As it should be. much healthier than the other board.

Honestly I like the interior of the line. Perry, Watson, Wilson (who i think can medical redshirt), plus Fuentes-Cundiff and Nwochoka. And maybe Hastings can play inside.

I'm more concern about edge pass-rushing vs interior.
