Yesterday was a great day raising money for the program and the big shots have upped their NIL donations, but a massive opportunity has been missed regarding grass roots NIL. There’s a lot of people that want to donate, but have no idea where to go. I am talking about upper middle class people that may throw anywhere from 100-1000 bucks. It’s a shame this couldn’t have been figured out before the announcement. It probably could have funded at least half a player in the rotation. I get asked about this constantly and have no good answer for people.

At least we have new blood running things. I can’t stress enough that the average age of the people in charge just dropped 30 years in the last month. They’ll have new ideas for NIL just need a little time to get them implemented.

And You saw the #’s this year were crazy compared to last year right?

SU is on the hook for ~$4 million in direct player compensation for hoops. I'm guessing they'd LOVE to cover that nut entirely from donations.

And I'm sure they'd be happy to have the whales and businesses cover NIL.

Fair, but there’s people holding out who want to donate to NIL specifically and not to the school.

Honestly, I feel I fall in this very category. I don’t want to donate just to “do it.” That feels literally like throwing money away—not caring nor having any idea what happens with it. So, I don’t know where to go with a potential donation. I would probably split 50/50 between basketball and football, but all the tumult of the last several weeks makes me very uneasy. At this point, I am probably going to just sit on the idea of donating and hope a clear path is soon evident. I would guess others are in the same boat, too.

I agree 100% yesterday's fund raiser was fun and will have an impact.

Heres a copy of OX's post about yesterday campaign, why not do the same for NIL?
As a community of SU fans across the country we could probably raise more than a couple hundred thousand

Syracuse Giving Day 2026 wrapped up yesterday—and the Orange community made history!
The final numbers are still being tallied, but here’s what the Orange Community did together yesterday:
  • More than doubled our donor goal of 4,444, and the most in Giving Day history
  • $3,932,505 raised—the first time Syracuse Giving Day has ever surpassed $3 million
  • $62,257 raised for student organizations
  • Donors from all 50 states and 17 countries
A special moment: Syracuse Men’s Basketball saw some of the most remarkable donor energy of the entire day, with 2,196 donors rallying behind the program—more than any other sport. It’s a reflection of the excitement surrounding Syracuse Athletics right now, and a sign of what this community is ready to get behind.

This kind of result doesn’t happen without an entire community behind it. It’s a reflection of the momentum and energy building at Syracuse right now. Syracuse Giving Day is one moment—but the need it represents doesn’t end when the day does. If there’s an area of Syracuse you care about, there’s still a way to make a difference at giving.syr.edu.

It takes time to set this up. But as with political fundraising, it’s an untapped source of revenue potential that they need to work on developing. I think Blair will get this going.

Agreed on new blood, but as a boomer, it's not an age thing, it's a mindset. Entrepreneurial vs institutional doesn't care about age.

How much did basketball raise?
 
I was harping on this yesterday.

SANIL/Orange United folded last November... There was plenty of time to organize a replacement BBall NIL collective by yesterday.

I'm glad B3 is on board now. He will get this sorted, but it's a day late and dollar short right now. I actually emailed him about it... We'll see if he got it and/or responds.

I've also heard rumors their IS a new a collective launching soon??

Wildhack has done a bunch of good things here, but the ball was dropped on the basketball NIL collective front. There should have been something in place by yesterday that could be easily promoted and communicated. You had almost 4 months to figure it out.

This isn't rocket science.

Well, the opportunity mentioned in OP may have been missed-
But they got me today with a timely 'Cuse Chronicles email season tix link.
GMac is in my Circle Of Trust -decided to buy the best seats at my price point now.
Not waiting for the news on how GMac is building the team and program -think tix will sell fast then.

SU hoops had beaten me into submission -now allowing myself to have great expectations, and be excited again.
First seasons in MANY years, and that's after making first donation ever yesterday.
I'm all in for this to support GMac -he's performed CPR on my lost SU hoops fandom.
Hope that many of the fans like me will also return to rock the Dome like the Good Old Days!
Hope, and believing in the program again, is a wonderful thing -feeling good!
 
Since the overmatched disaster that was Orange United shuttered, there has been no real Syracuse basketball NIL mechanism. That is about to change in a big way and it will be much more professional, organized and easier for donors to give.
