I rarely watch or listen to national sports talk shows but I've been checking them out toady to see what they say about last night's accident. I blundered into the Stephen A. Smith show. A guy who wasn't Stephen, (he was a white guy), was discussing the Padres signing Manny Machado. he said the Padres have to be concerned about Machado's commitment to winning because he signed with the Padres, who have done little of that over their history. it must be he just wanted the money and do they really want a player who just wants the money.

in other words they should want the type of player who would never sign with them.

Their commitment to winning to to build the best farm system in the league, then sign 2 big FA back to back, and let them be the leaders over the next 10 years as the farm system fills in. They are poised to win in 2-3 years.
