A big reason why our perimeter screens and bubbles dont work is because it takes too long to happen. Our opponents get those plays off on the cuse defense because it happens quickly and seamlessly. It takes forever for the ball to get out when we do it, which in turn makes it easy to read/defend

I was going to write a recap a little bit later on what I saw and this is one of the things I was going to mention. For some reason it is such a slow developing play for us. It takes forever for the ball to get out their when we run it. Maryland ran it and it was in the wr hands within a second. The way hunt plays he takes a second to turn his whole body and then doesn't sling it out there allowing the safeties to come crashing down and the linebackers to flow to the ball. No room to go. Also doesn't help when you run it to an overloaded side.

1% of that result was Maryland getting the ball out there quick
the other 99% was that we had two guys covering 3

most of our failed bubble screens would get tackled faster if we threw it faster

It also requires the non-receiving WRs to block effectively, which Maryland seemed much better at than we were.

Not sure about that. We had enough defenders, one blocker took out two tacklers.

You must have missed the still photo that was posted on their TD.

Must have. I can admit when I'm wrong.

This, and because we blitz so often. If we had linebackers playing off, they may get over there to make the play.

I know we have to blitz, and often do it effectively. But I worry about what a guy like Brian Kelly is going to do to it after watching our film.

If you watch the replay you will see that we had two DB get wiped out by two of their WR. I don't know who the other DB (maybe LB) was who came from the middle but he had a terrible angle and I think he is the second guy you are thinking about as he had to jump the pile a bit to get around it.

Actually I believe that Milhouse is right about 2 guys covering 3. I watched the first half again Sunday and hit rewind and "pause" on that play to quickly count heads because I couldn't believe what I thought I was seeing. Two of our guys were out wide covering three of theirs. I even hit "rewind" again to make sure that I wasn't missing one of our guys hidden off screen. Nope.

One of our guys ran full bore to try to get out there as the balled was snapped (he subsequently got blocked) but there were only two defenders lined up out wide at the snap. Obv someone should've spotted that and called a T.O..

we rolled the LB up to a corner blitz early, once they went in motion we needed to have the safety come over the top which he did way too late. thats on the kids to make the site adjustment. then maryland made big time cut blocks, had we been blocking it it still would have a been a 3 yd loss.

from my endzone seat live i told my kid we were in trouble as soon as the RB went in motion. you could see we didnt have it covered correctly.

shafer needs to cut this because I'm sick of my wife looking at me like a crazy person for freaking out, waking up the baby, rewinding, pausing, and taking a picture of the screen.

I was screaming from my seat on that play that they had an overload and we didn't have it covered. Sure enough, they throw it over there and he takes it to the house. Guess they couldn't hear me from so far away. Maybe I need better seats.

Ahh - yep. That's the right play-call for Maryland.

Should have went for 7-8, not 80. Safety comes over took bad angle. Should have had the tackle.

oh come on farkin jamiroquai on a conveyor belt could've picked up 7 yards on that

Funny, I basically did the same thing and yelled to my wife, "Honey, come here... you gotta see this!" Which she did. Then she watched the play with me - in slow motion (of course!) - as I explained the magnitude of what just happened. She then rolled her eyes and walked away while I returned to the replay of the game.

I have a great wife.

it would been better had we been playing press on one of the WR which we were until the Lb went to blitz. i cant believe the coaches up top didnt see it though and scream for a TO.

I would have showed Mrs Crusty the replay, but she was too tired from unscrewing me from the ceiling. "Honey, stop yelling screen, screen. Now behave yourself, I have to go to ALDI's"
