a rule that has me a bit perplexed

so if you catch a jump ball in the endzone and get tackled out of bounds before touching its not a TD. but if you get tackled out of the front of the endzone it is a TD. in neither case did you have control of the ball by rule in the endzone..

just like that first down call last night.

I just want to know what’s considered down. Hackett was literally laying on his back when they ruled he fumbled.
