It has today's date, so I assume the pictures and information are recent. I had thought the progression of the disease was beyond this by now but there can be large differences from case to case, (I lost a friend who retired the day i did within 6 months of diagnosis). There is a very brief mention of the problem with the apartment house they own with a link to another article.

When you combine neuroplasticity and a growth mindset you get what is happening with Tim Green. Bravo Tim and family!!!

Tragic disease but can't give a bravo to him and his family and their property malfeasance.
It appears that the son is dropping the ball. Isn't up to the task.

I hope we remember when Jim Boeheim dies that the second thing everyone mentions is the 2 probations and he was involved in a vehicular homicide or Jim Brown... when he passes the initial comment is him tossing a woman out a window. You guys are amazing.

The article was uplifting IMO.

To each his own - and apples to oranges. In my opinion the Green family is knowingly jobbing the system at the expense of human beings. JB's was an accident - there is nothing accidental about what is going on with the Green properties, just as it's not an accident that they always seem too busy to publicly respond to questions on their properties but seem to have all the time in the world for these kind of articles.

I find that amazing.

What does that mean "Jobbing the system at the expense of human beings". I'm admittedly naive to what Tim Green has done to people with his apt buildings. My guess is he's created slums based on the vitriol.

I'm just responding to a nice story about the fight he's enduring with ALS.

I'll chalk up my lack of knowledge on the Tim Green crime syndicate but in a vacuum the story was nice?

not taking sides on this, just linking the article that was linked within the Athletic piece

So he's Fred Trump or Mo Vaughn or whomever else that has owned buildings in low income areas. The Greens should (and sounds like they will) address this issue or be faced with a gigantic fine.

I think this is business 101. I don't own apt buildings at this scale but i'm not sure this downstreams into a malevolent conclusion of all things Tim Green. He cut corners and is now getting dinged for it. Welcome to business for the past 500 years.

Well the lady was killed over a year ago and the problems were documented well before that so if they are planning to address the issues they may want to get started. A good start may be actually going in front of the camera when local media inquires, but I guess that is saved the major sites or publications who won't address the housing issue.

If Tim Green played for Georgetown he would be getting grilled by everyone on this board.

Just wanted to say the Green family continues to show that they may be the lowest form of life. I don't understand how people can get away with this for so long. Dot com needs more articles on this and less on Adam Weitzman.

The system just isn't set up to fix the consequences of moral complacency and incompetence at this scale.

It's extraordinary the amount of public resources that have gone into cleaning up the mess. You're right that it's a shame that Green (for a number of reasons) and his malevolent failson (for reasons unknown to me) have managed to dodge widespread condemnation so far.

Sounds like this is ending soon.

Good. (Though I'll feel more confident after the bids come in. Ownership has an inflated sense of market value.)

I think residential use is in its future.
With I81 located so close to the property, I wonder what impact it going away with have? I would think it will help the value of the property over time.

Yeah, it's a big lot with a parking garage that's in half-decent shape and a 20-story building of good construction that market rents probably couldn't justify lending on if someone wanted to build it today. Great site.

It's got an, ahem, high-profile regular customer for a few weekends every year, but as a hotel it's functionally obsolete. Tiny little pie-slice rooms. And our market's got too many hotel rooms as it is.

Without 81 within earshot, it's going to make a very attractive ~100-unit apartment building with on-site covered parking.

Business 101? That's quite a take on this.

Moral complacency is a good way to put it. I was having trouble finding the words. While I am far from a perfect person, I am quite certain I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I owned a property where people were living in these conditions. Once you've been given multiple opportunities to clean it up, it's very clear you just don't give a crap about people.

I don't know. Hotel rooms in downtown for events will be a problem if the city loses too many hotels. Ripple effect of low hotel inventory impacts quite a few things.

As I understand it, the local hotel market suffers from three major problems. In order: too many hotels, in dated condition, not in the right places.

There's decent demand downtown and around the Hill, but most of the full-service properties are tired or to some degree functionally obsolete. So I'd expect the decommissioning of these properties with demand met by new construction of smaller hotels with mid-market flags that offer fewer amenities. The Hotel Syracuse and SU's hotel will pick up the full-service demand and a bunch of Aloft-type properties will meet that business/event need.
