A Turning Point For Women’s Lacrosse?

Pocket depth hasn't changed. But, technology, and more importantly, women's stick skills have. Good players fire rockets. That's why there is the annoying, but necessary, shooting space call and resulting free position shot. You could say make helmets mandatory and get rid of shooting space. But, the potential for injury is still there. Not sure how you avoid this with our putting women in complete protective gear like the men. But, that is extremely unlikely.
"Complete protective gear like the men" works in hockey.

Helmets, gloves and eliminate those ridiculous free shots. Most of the young women I've talked to prefer the men's game. They did away with bloomers years ago and changed women's BB to the men's version
I somehow knew that would be your response.

Sorry, replied to my own response. Meant elseward. Believe she knows

if there's no hitting then it's not lax. the game is meant to be violent . women's lax is basically TEE-BALL.
girls who decided that field hockey wasn't cool. BTW. that's not Hockey either. but at least they wear skirts.

Field Hockey and Ice Hockey are two different sports.

Just like Soccer is different than Rugby.

And Beer Pong is different than Ping Pong.

I'm going to dissent from the general tenor of this thread. Women's lacrosee ten or twelve years ago was truly almost unwatchable. Clunky rules and endless stop and start. But, as the rules have evolved in recent years what has resulted is a sport that features speed, finesse, and incredible stick skills. It is a unique sport that genuinely highlights female athleticism. I don't think it needs to be a pale imitation of the men's game.

agreed, great sport. less start and stop still would be better, and i believe that's what they're working to.
light years from 20 years ago, top of the game those girls can ball.

I have a granddaughter who ended up quitting soccer early in her junior year because of a badly broken nose and concussion. The nature of the sport not using their hands at all, they automatically suppress the reflex to protect themselves on line drive balls to their faces. In fact she’s having deviated septum surgery next week but insurance wouldn’t cover the damage to her nose calling that injury cosmetic. I would imagine guys would have the same issue. My son, had 3 friends staters on the lacrosse team out all out for the year for broken collar bones from stick slashes.
