Aaron Womack in the portal

Womack went to school about a mile away from Marquette, and didn’t get an offer, but did get a UW Milwaukee one. We were the only major offer. No offense to the kid, but hoping we stop making these types of offers if we actually want to compete in the future.

He was a major project. Belongs at a UW-Green or or UW-Milwaukee. Marquette never recruited him and he doesn't fit the Badgers system. He's a high character kid that works hard, what you want at the end of the bench. Not sure if he'll ever be more than a mid major player though.

Hard waiting for a kid to develop then watching him portal for more cash... l still hate Edwards leaving after developing.

Maybe Gerry can put a good word in for him at Siena?

Odd man out. Kiyan back, Doty coming, trying to get Kingz another year plus Fennel playing at either 1 or 2, no path to playing.

This guy [IIRC] was an Alex Kline special -- someone that they identified with some of the right shooting, versatility, etc. for a wing.

It was pretty clear when he showed up that he was a developmental prospect, at best.

No big loss, wish him the best.
Prediction:

Kid goes to a really low DI school, averages six points a game, and someone will be saying “if we only kept Womack” after a loss next season…

Don’t get why a kid like this would ever go P4 out of high school in this day and age. Go mid major prove yourself then transfer up
Probably one of the last years of kids doing this.

Hopefully Syracuse’s as well.

Maybe I’m wrong, but my gut reaction is that SU simply can’t recruit these kinds of guys anymore. Let a mid major develop players and go poach them using money.

No one is gonna hang around 2-3 years to “develop” anymore.

*edit*. I should clarify that we can bring in guys like White or Kiyan who can give you rotational minutes while developing. But you can’t waste time with guys who are “developing” while stapled to the bench for a season.

It's basically the end of the redshirt concept. And we knew early on that Womack was going to redshirt.

If a freshman could realistically give you minutes, then sure. If not, you even wonder how valuable it is to have him at practice.

With so many veteran guys sticking around, getting extra year(s) like Zephir, there’s less need for redshirt projects like Womack. Guys like Aaron, as others have said, can develop at a small school.

This kid and a bunch of others need to get some game on tape. Tough to sell yourself when you have no film.

There’s probably some value to a kid like Womack to join a P5 team out of HS, redshirt their frosh year, transfer down to a mid major, spend 2-3 years playing a proving themselves, then transferring back up to a P5 program.

He definitely has some personal knowledge that will help him in the future. He also gets another year of pay and development. Big win for him.

Yup, best way to maximize earning potential as a student is to get held back in high school as many years as possible. Then, if you're a kid like this, go mid-major and work your way up into more cash
