It was pretty clear when he showed up that he was a developmental prospect, at best.

Maybe I’m wrong, but my gut reaction is that SU simply can’t recruit these kinds of guys anymore. Let a mid major develop players and go poach them using money.

No one is gonna hang around 2-3 years to “develop” anymore.

*edit*. I should clarify that we can bring in guys like White or Kiyan who can give you rotational minutes while developing. But you can’t waste time with guys who are “developing” while stapled to the bench for a season.

I think you are right, and it will work both ways. Schools might not want to take flyers on guys who will take that long, when they can go get immediate contributors via the portal [in theory].

There are some schools [like Purdue] that go get good system fits, and keep them around for four years, in lieu of chasing highly rated blue chip recruits.

But the days of the darkhorse flyers are probably mostly done.

Guys assessed by staff as better than their ranking will still be exceptions of course but not the norm. Plus unless I missed something Moesch hasn’t committed yet either even if it was expected. Immediate playing time vs a chance to fight for a rotation spot is a big difference. Curious if he does indeed decide to commit or not.

We are already seeing this too. Kid just committed to play at Austin Peay. Had multiple power five offers. The mindset is to go put up numbers at a mid major and then transfer up and cash the check.

Sometimes you just don't know for sure until a guy shows up. Take Maliq for example. He was our lowest rated recruit in our class, but was an immediate impact guy. I think he was ranked even lower than Womack.

Out of 15 scholarships I don't mind having a couple lotto tickets like that.
