About what was expected

With this schedule all we really need is to make a bowl game to keep momentum going. Anything more than 6 wins is a bonus. The team is super young.

We had the ball on 26-38. Maybe it wasn’t close but we had a real chance to get it.
It was never in doubt, but it got interesting for a bit at least as you pointed out. I don’t think anyone here is calling this a moral victory, but it’s pretty clear that Tennessee was better. We looked a lot better against Tennessee today than we did at Pitt last year.

Excited to see the guys in person next week. I have a feeling that we’re better than Central Connecticut.

Hard to really read much into the secondary with the front 7 getting washed the way they did. Front 7 got absolutely pummeled though. LBs struggled to fill gaps and the line was pushed back 5 yards every play.

Offense performed pretty admirably but to say I felt more confident in last year's offense would be an understatement. Willis did a really nice job.

Little disappointed in JRS and Gill. Felt like they lacked to get any significant separation. Don’t think they completed a single one of the go routes when they were in 1-on-1. Meeks was a dog in those situations last year. PG and Trebor both excelled in those routes too. If JRS and Gill can’t do it, that’s fine, but they need to tell Angeli to stop targeting them in those spots OR have them run alternate routes.

The O will be solid, I think the OL will be a strength eventually. That was a good Tennessee D.

The defense has some issues. The DL got manhandled. Was Tenn OL that good, are we that bad, somewhere in between? We'll see. Tackling was suspect, thats being kind. The corners had more bad moments than good. We will see how this all plays out
I agree that the OL looked fine especially run blocking. I was surprised with how well we're able to run the ball and thought we should have ran more even down double digits

Shafer beat so many teams with better talent than us as DC because his scheme was chaotic and threw teams off balance and forced turnovers. Geno Smith never beat a Shafer defense in college. Tony White had a system that sent rushedms from all over on occasion. Erob just doesn't blitz, like ever. It's mind boggling to watch as a former linebacker and appreciater of good defensive schemes.
Especially considering how wide open WR's are and how big of holes there are when stopping the run. The defense doesn't have the talent and it's not being helped with the scheme.

the defense was bad last year and for the life of me I don’t know why anyone would think game 1 this year it would be better considering what we lost. Fran, EROB, and Nixon are all recruiters first. You have a defensive staff and defensive head coach but none of them have any real coordinator experience other than the linebacker coach. The really good offensive coaches will expose these guys every time.

Just my opinion.
Uhm, you saw what Nixon did with McCord and the offense last year and think he's a recruiter first?

Part of the problem was Tenn secondary was hold on almost every play. The one I remember the most was Ross Simon was out of bounds on the throw. On replay you could see the defender was holding him under his shoulder pad with no call. Only pi calls we got is when an SU wr was tackled before the ball arrived.

Maybe true regarding our defense.

On the offensive side of the ball Nixon will be an OC on Sundays next year most likely. Hes a schemer, not a recruiter

Hopefully, we could chalk this up to just Tennessee being pretty elite. But if they can’t get separation next week, I’ll be pretty concerned.

Maybe Tennessee is better than we thought. Team showed a lot of fight, but lots to clean up for sure.

Upon further review.
  • We played them even after the first quarter.
  • Willis will play on Sundays. Good backs each year. Love it.
  • Angeli will get better each game but receivers need to win those 50-50 balls.
  • No excuse for that fumble.
  • OLine seems tougher than usual. One can hope.
  • We were not ready for their stunts and delayed blitzes. Were those not on their tapes?
  • 5 sacks is probably like two turnovers at least.
  • Tennessee didn't seem that good.
  • Penalties got cleaned up as the game progressed.
  • I hate our defense. Whatever it is.
  • Playing a 17 year old corner cost a cheap 73 yard touchdown. Oh well, kid's got to learn. Gonna be a good one.
  • What's with the delay in sending in plays?
