Couple tidbits from Shafer: He said that the No. 44 can be used as a recruiting tool. Didn’t want to expend on the “controversy”

Shafer also dodged on calling Whigham a starter at cornerback. Said that it will be a fairly open competition in camp.

Shafer said the reason that he has three kickers on scholarships is because Hofrichter is also a punter, and Dixon is on his last season.

For those that are curious, Shafer said there’s a good competition with Matt Keller and Keith Mitsuuchi for starting LS.
