ACC Bowl Games

Oh my

If I’m an NFL GM I’m nervous about him now…..

Biggest game in forever for PITT and you’re the guy that got them there and your opting out…

Kinda loses he’s a team guy…

I respect why he’s doing it, not sure if it’s the best move but hey…he’s going to be making big $$$$ at this time next season

He’s protecting himself for his future employer. NFL types will be pleased.

I think GMs are plenty aware that bowl games are meaningless and he’s making the safe decision. The only people that care that he’s sitting out are Pitt fans and people who don’t want to treat these adults as adults.

This is the year it really hit me that I watch college football for Cuse now, not for the sport itself. No real interest in any of these postseason games. I may watch some, may not.

Or I may watch almost none. That’s where I’ve been at the last few years. The excitement left me at some point. Used to love catching a good bowl game. I find almost no excitement this time of year and it’s not ‘cuse related. CFB isn’t CFB anymore.

Its lame but the ACC Championship is a bigger game. I think this is more about draft stock than injury. MSU has a good D. He could get blown out and drop a couple rounds. Also got a trip to NYC for the Heisman ceremony.

Their bonehead fans loved the fake slide its a fitting legacy.

But the chances of him blowing out Sparty with a new OC are low. And even if he did that how much does the stock jump? Vs the very likely chance a bad game tanks it.

I made the comment in a college football group that I felt that Pickett not playing in the bowl game was selfish, a bunch of people jumped on me and accused me of being selfish. Here’s the thing, logically it doesn’t make sense for a college football fan to cheer for a team to reach a bowl, and then be okay when the star QB1 sits out to get ready for the NFL draft. It makes no sense.

For the NFL first, CFB second crowd I guess it does. But this bowl game is huge for Pitt, this move is pretty rotten for them. Shouldn’t college football fans have the right to expect the players to see it through, just like any other sports fans?

Michigan state has one of the worst pass defense in the country.

Yes 100%

If this is going to be case, why are we even watching college football?

He’s not the first one to do this. Happens every year it seems.

Is this the first for a NY6 bowl tho?

Especially for Pickett to opt out and Walker to opt out for Michigan St.

Makes this game very unappealing

I do not know that answer.

I didn't think it had happened in NY6 bowls, but OX corrected me that it has (Florida Gators last year for one example).

I think the only games that haven't experienced the opt outs yet are the playoffs and the Rose Bowl.

Which, not coincidentally, are the only ones I drop everything to make sure I watch.

Also, regardless of the bowl, there are a LOT of players opting out. At least 20 probably more. Pitt, MSU, Miss St x2, Purdue x2, Auburn x3, Arkansas, Ole Miss, WVU, Oregon, ND x2, SMU x2, Florida, etc. It’s the latest craze.

I would love for 2022 Syracuse to be in the same position 2021 Pitt is, and watch this board EXPLODE if Tucker opted out of the bowl game.

Selfishly as a fan, of course you want to see your guys play + win the game

Logically, I completely understand. There is far more risk than reward in a bowl game. Insurance policies be damned. Can you tear an ACL in a pro day, pre-season camp, etc? Of course you can. However, this is a business decision.

Bowls could share some of that money they are raking in for an exhibition game and make the game more meaningful for the star players. “We’ll put you on this billboard and pay you x, and we’ll cover your insurance”

But they know they get their $ whether the stars play or not.

System keeps showing us how broken it is

It's a no Ken Peach Bowl. No Pickett, no Walker.

I can't wait to not watch.

Expand the playoffs. Yesterday.
He probably did his "undecided" thing so his buddies could bet the game one way then bet the other way after he opts and and it moves towards Michigan St. Arbitrage!

I see no reason for possible high draft picks to take a chance of injury in a meaningless bowl game.
If we got in a new years day bowl next year and Tucker decided not to play, because he was going to the NFL, good for him.

Especially a RB

They're meaningless games that mostly serve as future player development. Both the practices and the game. So they might as well let everyone play in one, regardless of record. The "not deserving of a bowl game" crowd should realize that these aren't really bowl games in the traditional sense anyway. It used to mean more to all the players on the team.
