ACC coach rankings 2021

Recruiting is generally last every year and they’ve averaged about 4 wins a year. Attendance is also at a low point and zero is being done to generate interest and excitement. I would rank them last too

Dino is...not where you want to be.

It certainly is disappointing but I don’t know who would have done better the past 3 years or is it 4? I like Dino, I’m just hoping recruiting has provided some help, but my expectations are not high. If not we’ll be someone new next year I think?

Dabs is the only ACC coach in the top 10 on this list nationally. The rest of the coaches below him in the ACC are a coin flip. All have some scattered resumes with extreme highs and lows.

nationally they have Harbaugh at 23 on the list at Michigan. Ogeron is at 11. Franklin at 13. Woof.

If anything I would say the list shows that there aren’t that many great coaches without some serious warts or it is the situation that makes them elite.

I might put Mack Brown towards the mid-to-bottom of the Top 10 nationally. That guy has an incredible resume and is under-appreciated.

I see your point.

Yet Mack was forced out of Texas. He learned a bit while traveling for tv and seems to have applied his knowledge to his second tenure at UNC.

They all have flaws. Even Saban has the NFL fallure. Dabo has lost in the college playoff a few times. College coaching is very challenging. Look at Kirby Smart we would kill for that kind of run yet I am sure there are a bunch at Georgia that want him out.

Mack makes everywhere he goes better.

In the decade prior to his arriving at Texas, they had zero AP Top 10 finishes. Mack then had 7 in his first dozen years there. They won the 2005 national title, and came so close to two more -- in 2008 they missed the title game because of that miracle Michael Crabtree play against Texas Tech, and in the 2009 title game Colt McCoy got injured. In his final year 2013 before he got canned, they went 8-5. They have had exactly one season better than that since.

And he has resurrected the UNC program two separate times.

Fine put Mack in the top ten. I agree he is a top coach that is not what I am trying to get across. Even Mack Brown was forced out fairly or not. I am saying that it is difficult to be an elite coach and that there aren’t many. It also changes with the season and situation.

Dino as was said was in the top few of the ACC a few years ago now he is a bottom coach. Lists like this are fun but it makes you appreciate how hard it is to be at the top and stay there for years.

Yeah, Mack is pretty damn good especially when you go somewhere like UNC and have the success he has had and now is having again. How he recruits like he does is very impressive. He has to sell his vision because UNC's tradition in football isn't exactly doing that for him.

That's what is disappointing to me about the last 3-4 years with Dino - he isn't getting the talent I was expecting he would get. I'm still a Dino supporter, but concerned and somewhat doubtful he can right the ship. He's no longer the hot new coach that he was. The buzz in the air is gone. The fact that we couldn't do more to leverage that 10 win season is also disappointing.
