HCSS comes in at #13. At least we are not the bottom of the barrel. I think that the writer may have been off his meds on several of his picks, especially with our HC. HCSS should be no lower than middle of the pack as that is where the NEW HC, in a New to Conference School took his team. Some writers just cannot see the obvious.

Petrino should not be ranked high, last is probably correct in that he is new to the ACC so he has no conference record. He is a proven coach, so I wouldn't mind if he was in the middle of the pack. Until the Cards have a season under their belt with Petrino at the helm, they should not top the rankings in any category.

Beamer is way over ranked. He has built his career on weak schedules and losing to the top teams, middle of the pack is the best he should get. Number of wins should be an indication of good teams but when they cannot win the big games, it deserves a more in depth look. That look reveals that VATech beats up patsies and pretty much no one of significance, while splitting the with average teams

Dabo Swinney in the middle of the pack is too low. He has proven to win year n and year out and brought Clemson into the elite national status, #2 or #3 is probably appropriate.

What think ye member of the Syracuse Fan Braintrust?

Not sure what Chryst , Clawson, and Doeren have done to be ranked ahead of Shafer, especially since almost everyone picked us to finish in the basement last year. I guess we can't complain too much Athlon did pick us to finish in 3rd place in their early predictions.

Anyway here are my rankings (with a strong attempt to be as unbiased as I can)

1. Jimbo - Defending champ what's left to be said?
2. Beamer - Past history has him this high another bad year and he could start to fall a little bit
3. Dabo - Great assistants, but he can recruit and has proven results
4. Petrino - Say what you want about the guy - he gets it done
5. Cutcliffe - #2 is ridiculous. Great coach, but let's see if he can sustain success at Dukee
6. Golden - Did an amazing job at Temple, but has underachieved at Miami with some pretty good talent
7. Addazzio - Miracle job at BC last year. Great recruiter
8. Fedora - So so results with good talent
9. Shafer - Still has a lot to show, but good start and best defensive mind in conference
10. Clawson - Really like Clawson. Made BG a winner and looks to be a solid recruiter
11. Johnson - Teaches some of the worst trash in CFB. No respect for a whining chop blocker
12. Chryst - Hasn't proved anything yet
13. Doeren - He needs a big year after getting crushed with some decent talent
14. London - Would be shocked if he still had a job next year.

Not that it matters but Doeren over Shafer? Golden over Dabo? Addazio over Fedora? Clawson debuts a little high.

I think Cutcliffe is one of the best coaches in the country. He took Duke to the Chick-Fil-A bowl and lost to A&M in a great game. It also took an absolute colossal effort from Manziel to do it. A&M and it's 100,000 seat stadium, Home of the 12th Man, Heisman winner vs. Duke.

This is a tough one because as far as I am concerned, HCSS did a great job last year and should be higher. At the same time, guys like Doeren and Clawson have prior(and successful) head coaching experience. My gut and heart say HCSS should be where Anomander has him but my head can understand why he is number 13. Shows how good the coaches are in the ACC, actually

Agreed, even London could still end up being a great coach. I guess it's looking at overall body of work cause right now Beamer should be quite a bit lower on the list.

Jimbo Fisher (45-10 - never had losing, or .500, season)
Frank Beamer (224-109-2 - only five losing seasons, last in 1992)
Bobby Petrino (83-30 - one losing season, Arkansas, in 2008)
Dabo Swinney (51-23 - one losing season in 2010)

David Cutcliffe (31-44)
Larry Fedora (49-29 - never had losing, or .500, season)
Al Golden (49-49)

The rest don't have much to rank them by. Either recently becoming coaches, or coaching for cupcakes.
