ACC - Demographics of relocated New Yorkers

I am so bumming that we joined the ACC instead of the Mountain West !!!

I moved down here to the Raleigh area in 1999. It's a very nice area to live and raise a family. I still miss upstate NY, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Unfortunately, I missed the NC State game. Believe it or not, I was in Syracuse... great planning, right?

Anyway, I'm really glad that Syracuse will be joining the ACC. I'll have plenty of chances to see the Orange play each year. In fact, a buddy of mine and I have already started to plan out which arenas we plan to attend for games:

NC State - 15 miles
UNC - 25 miles
Duke - 25 miles
Wake Forest - 94 miles
Virginia Tech - 187 miles
Virginia - 187 miles
Clemson - 269 miles
Maryland - 289 miles

RaleighSUfan -- you should not have leaked the above info! Now all games played by SU at the first 7 of the 8 locations you list will be construed by the pundits as SU "home games" ---- they are closer to you in miles than Syracuse is to Madison Square Garden.

moved back to rochester from tidewater (norfolk/va beach) and thrilled that i did.

Well, all I can say is that I spent 57 years as a New Yorker -- born, raised, educated, and employed. Dwelled in Long Island, Albany, Rochester, Syracuse, Churchville, Brockport, Trumansburg, Camillus and Ithaca. Since moving to the NC Triangle 5.5 years ago, I've not had a single pang about leaving NYS or a single regret about settling here. Outside of an act of God, no way will I ever move back to the Empire State. Paid my dues (and exhorbitant taxes) for the last time.....

In northern Virginia I have ten friends that are SU fans and it's hard not to see a SU flag or plate going down 66 every day with my commute.

This^^^
I've been pleasantly surprised, and frankly a little shocked, at how little I've missed NY. As a born & bred NY'er and SU alum, plus having lived in Manhattan for 30+ years, I guess that was more than enough for me.
Still love my old 'hood- but Carolina is my new mistress!

Wife and I have never looked back after 13 years in the Lowcountry. Any shortcomings here are far outweighed by the pluses. Worst part of move was giving up season BB tickets. :(

Another ex-Syracusan living in Alpharetta. I used to think I would miss NY...not going to happen. You just have to look around and try places. Everything is here and then some. The guys at the bagel shop in Johns Creek are all from various NYC boroughs. The pizza place owners are from Jersey. I won't get into the housing/taxes thing because it would blow your mind compared to NY. I can't even tell you how many Mets and Knicks fans are here when they are in town. You have the North Georgia Mountains which are starting to see a nice little wine trail growing up...then you have the coast with Sea Island, Savannah, Jeckyl Island, etc.. The economy has been bad everywhere recently, but this area's growth for the future will far surpass anything in the northeast. This was a great move by SU.

N. Carolina is a screwed up state. My God, they can't even locate Wake Forest University in Wake Forrest!

Yeah, what such disarray for the state. I think one of the reasons NYS is so screwed up too is because the NY Giants and NY Jets play their games in the state of NJ...;)

Let's not forget, NJ is a "Home" game for 'Cuse.:)

I too like many of you thought I would miss my NY roots, but sadly that has not been the case. This is my second year in Charlotte, and I really enjoy it. The economy everywhere is screwed up, but in my field here, there are a lot more options than me commuting to Rochester. Also I don't go a day without seeing at 2 or 3 SU fans and former New Yorkers here.

I lived in Boca Raton, FL from '96-'08 and went to a few SU - Miami games and there weren't many Cuse fans there. In fact, they hated anyone who wore the orange colors.

It was the same way when Yanks came into town. The fans there sucked.
