The updated Medical Advisory Group Report calls for all team members in football, field hockey, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball to be tested three times each week beginning with the week of the first competition this fall. One molecular (PCR) test must be administered within three days of the day of competition. In football, one test must be performed the day before competition and another within 48 hours of the conclusion of the game. The test administered the day before competition will be conducted by a third party, selected by the ACC Office.

The updated report also specifies that every student-athlete who tests positive will undergo a cardiac evaluation that includes an electrocardiogram, a troponin test and an echocardiogram before a phased return to exercise.

In addition to the ACC MAG report, the ACC has significantly adjusted its 2020 Football Operations and Game Management protocols to eliminate all non-essential personnel from the sidelines and team auxiliary areas. Individuals that are deemed essential to have access to the sidelines will be required to meet specific and consistent health and safety standards as agreed upon by all 15 schools, including a temperature screening, symptom check, physical distancing and universal masking.

I love the fact that a positive test triggers important tests that will immediately monitor an athletes vital organs.

but who is paying for that? I would assume the school is. But if a school gets hammered with positive cases they are gonna rack up one heck of a bill.

If the tests are medically indicated they should be covered by health insurance.

And all the ACC athletes who benefit can thank Syracuse, and especially the athletes on the SU football team, for making this happen.

I still was doubting Cuse would play football this year. I think now my doubts have been severely reduced. Honestly I think some teams will have players who test positive 48 hrs prior and miss out. I don't think it will happen to Cuse. they have been airtight (knocks on various types of wood).

Yup, for all the people wondering why the players would ’sit out’ practice if they felt safe with Syracuse protocols

This is the exact reason, and it worked. Good for them not just for the result, but the willingness to put something valuable at risk to get it

Well, working in cardiology, I can tell you that any positive test of a 18-22 yo in apparently good health, resulting in an echo, troponin blood test, and ECG will NOT be covered by many 3rd party payers and for good reasons. Given the low incidence of myocarditis in this age population; this is a vast overreaction of cardiac suspicion and testing. 2k-3k in testing and that's conservative. We are loosing our minds...

Eh. These schools are making millions of dollars off these kids. Least they can do is give them all the medical observations they ask for, warranted or not.

I agree the schools can afford it, but have never bought into the angle that schools make so much off these kids. Sure, I get it, these kids bring buts to the seats and eyeballs to the TV. A handful of kids at most programs and the head coach. Most of all, the name on the front of that Jersey as well as that symbolic Helmut is what DEFINES these kids and gives them the exposure to play and develop a resume to potentially go pro.

In the end, it's the school that provides the platform, the stage, the environment and opportunity to be drafted by playing at the highest level against the best at that level. Those games take place bc of the name on the Jersey, the stadium that was built by the 100 years of players preceding these kids, and the elite coaching provided to develop and potentially make a pro and/or man out of these kids at THE MOST pivotal ages of their lives. Add in the fact they will never pay a loan,be provided beautiful wardrobe for 4-5 years, be on a food program of a king, have academic support access 24/7, and EVEN if they never sniff an NFL roster...have the best 4-5 years of their life and an education they can hold their heads high about.

YET!...the perpetual mindset of some about how exploited, taken advantage off, and poor these kids are in trying to get then PAID...is flippin mindblowing and an insult to the university. Unlike hoops and baseball and hockey...these kids NEED to prove to NFL brass that they can play. This CANNOT be done in HS as it can the other 3 sports.

I am in healthcare too and if it’s coded right with documentation it can be covered.

Whether it’s really necessary or not is another question I suppose.

Thank you for your insight. It's all a tough call, I get it.. just not sure how much people are gonna jump on this myocarditis thing as I still do understand it is of lower risk. Can't find any stats out there as if yet.
