Looks like the SEC will clinch the 16 game challenge in the minimum 9 games.

Clemson saves the ACC from the embarrassment of going 0-10 in Day 1. Not that 1-9 isn't embarrassing.

Fortunately Clemson upset #4 Kentucky, otherwise it would have been a huge 0-10 bagel.

Duke and UNC of course were gifted home games, but against very tough opponents. If they lose, the ACC might as well shut down operations this season. They have such a putrid record against OOC teams.

NIL has shifted the landscape of college basketball so quickly with the rise of these football schools, but it actually started pre-NIL, with a lot more talent coming from those geographic areas vs the traditional eastern seaboard. Throw in more big boosters and all of a sudden, some coaches who never sniffed the top 25 are now rolling over opponents. What will happen when the SEC starts beating each other up in conference.

It was not just 1-9. Look at the scores. It was a night of varsity vs jv scrimages.

The PAC-10 was the reputed conference of champions and the ACC use to play bball.

bah. I can’t take another year where the flagship football school in the conference is the main competition to Duke and UNC.

It's reality and might get worse before it gets better.

Best days might be behind us. There's a reason ACC went 1-9 against the SEC and it's not going to change.

It isn't just about the buying players either it is about buying the best college coaches and the best support systems for those coaches. ACC use to have all the best coaches in college basketball it isn't that way anymore.

You are correct that it was starting to happen Pre-NIL.
The SEC, even beyond Kentucky, was doing very well in the top 100 recruiting rankings throughout the 2010's especially the back half.

Now they have $, better coaches and they are going to roll.

At this point, I believe its highly likely that the SEC gets at least 11 teams into the NCAA tournament, to tie the Big East record.

The question is can they get 12? That will probably depend on how "evenly" the leagues plays in conference, and how many teams can get to the 7-11 mark.

Its SEC, so not cheering for it, but its the reality of what they have done so far.

Virginia down 11. Gave up a lead allowing a 15-0 Florida run.
Carolina down 8 to Bama, both games nearing halftime.
UConn/Baylor on FS1 in the 2nd half. Huskies just went up 5 after being down 11 early.

And the Orangewomen up two on aTm at the half on the U. Hopefully the women ACC do better than the men.

Watching Alabama play shows us how far we have to go. They shoot it, play fast, defend and run. We desperately need some guys who can get after it.

Carolina can’t defend off the dribble either. They are a sieve on defense. They started out great, but could sustain it.
