ACC Network Content Ideas Thread

I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread where we could put the brainpower of syracusefan.com to work and make suggestions for ways to fill content on the new ACC Network coming late next summer.

One thing I think would be neat would be to have a weekly sports reporters type show featuring beat writers for the ACC.

There needs to be a call in show featuring a sports maven who can talk intelligently about any ACC sports topic. Who should be the Paul Finebaum of the ACC Network?

David Teel? He certainly has the contacts. Not sure of his studio presence. Mark Packer? He is articulate and knows how to fill up time.

Maybe a glib former coach?

Thoughts?
 
It would be nice to have something covering all the ACC games for the week. Used to be an ACC program on Saturdays that would discuss the football games for that day. I don't seem to see it anymore. In North Carolina I hear nothing about the other ACC conference teams on the local news...thank goodness for the internet and this site.

Also, for those of us who enjoy the Ladies and Olympic sports more coverage of those programs would be nice, not just game coverage.

David Glenn is the Paul Finebaum for the ACC.
He is bigtime in NC. I bet his show will be simulcast or ESPN will try to poach him.

He would be a good choice.
ESPN announced the ACC Channel is going to be based in Bristol some time ago.

One would think a lot of the talent will be based south of the Mason-Dixon line. Still scratching my head on that one...

With each school setting up their own facility for ACC coverage it could be they are expecting a lot of the content to come from the individual schools. I see quite a bit of this now on the ACCNetwork Extra with the coverage of the Olympic and Ladies sports.

Lots of good training and experience for Newhouse students.

Now, I may be giving up a million dollar idea here BUT, I would love to see a show where random die hard fans (like the ones that would be on message boards) of various programs get together and drunkenly recount huge games to other fans that may or not be aware of them, complete with a snopestype fact checking of the box score and highlight intercuts. Like drunk history for big games. Mayne fan banter from 20 somethings while showing a game played between them 40 years ago. I don't know something like that will stick. Don't think the ACC will let 'em do it drunk though but there is 3A-5A time slot.

Tom Brando would be my choice. When he was still doing a 3 hour daily radio show for CBS sports, I saw it - live airing of the radio show - on my cable. His crew was a great deal of fun. That show turned from sports generally to ACC sports preponderantly would draw viewers every week day morning.

Did you mean Tim Brando? I could definitely see him as a studio host type, or hosting a radio show.

On my Spectrum lineup, I have a couple of channels for the B1G Network, a couple for the SEC Network and a bunch for the PAC12 Network. I assume there might be a couple for the ACC Network as well? ''

I agree, the ACC is exceptional in many Olympic sports (and ladies sports). I hope they show a ton of those games live and I hope they have pre game, halftime and post game shows for them as well, so we can get to know the athletes, the coaches and the sports themselves better.

They shouldn't have any issue with filling up all the time slots :p

I would like to see more focus on some of non money sports and some classic games each school has played in.
 
The ACC is one of, if not the, premier conferences for the non-rev sports. Expect to see a lot of soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse, with baseball not too far behind.
 
I would like to see a weekly 3 card monte game featuring Slick Rick as the dealer, his assistant Candy and a different ACC BB coach.

Yes, Tim. Fast typing, especially when I have to leave, always gets me. He is a SEC guy who still lives in Shreveport, LA, but he clearly loves covering ACC basketball. And it's more than just basketball. Plus, he is fun. He has a great sense of humor applied to sports.

I also like Dave Glenn. He is not as entertaining as Brando, but he knows the ACC inside and out.

I do think the ACC Network needs a weekday AM show lasting 2 or preferably 3 hours to provide live content and draw viewers when there are no live games to show.

And you can count on a host of non-revenue sports shown. Lacrosse is still growing nationwide, and I'd like to see all ACC member lacrosse matches on TV, whether ESPN or ESPN2 or ESPNU or ACCN. We also need to triple our TV coverage of ACC baseball.

North of the Mason-Dixon go straight to regular ESPN.

I don't think so. He is based in Charlotte I think.

I know him from his XM radio show covering college sports. I think he is a mainstay on the new ACC radio channel on XM radio too. Interesting guy, very smooth. He is the son of Billy Packer. Yes, that Billy Packer. Interesting guy.

Yes they all work a little differently. The Big 10 network has a main channel and two alternate channels. All show the same programming except during football season where they show different games. Wish they would do that during basketball also, but they don't

The Pac 12 network has 6 different networks - one for each region. Arizona, Bay Area, Los Angeles, Mountain, Oregon and Washington. Each shows different programs and games for the region they focus on.

The SEC Network has one main channel and an alternate channel that sometimes shows another game if one game is already on the main network.
