ACC Next Year Question

I know we've been discussing our team for next year, but does anyone have a feel if the conference is going to bounce back or is it basically Duke + a group of mediocre teams + a group of bad teams again?

Just my opinion, but with the portal decisions pending till after the season it's impossible to tell.

I'm gonna take a wild ass guess and say that we're playing Ga Tech, Notre Dame, Virginia, and Virginia Tech twice.

With regard to high school recruiting, only Duke is getting any guys in the top 20. And, they've got 4 top 20 guys. Outside of that, the ACC has about 19-20 guys in the top 21-100 coming in. UNC has done well (but not quite up to their standards), we have a few, Virginia has done a good job, Notre Dame, NC State, VT, BC, Wake and Miami have gotten at least one top 100 guy.

I think Virginia for example will be better, once again competing for top spot - but as MDCuse points out, so much hinges on which players stick around and who gets what from the portal - I mean last year at this time nobody thought anything of Wake being a potential good team but Forbes killed it in the portal...

The ACC, IMO, needs to really bounce back next year. If there's another year similar to this one, with one lock (Duke) and the 3-4 others are bubble types again, looking to squeak in as 10 and 11 type seeds as this season, it may start an unfavorable trend for the conference. With K & Roy gone, JB inevitably, etc., the conference appears to be at a crossroads.

Football is already weak sauce, and if ACC basketball isn't strong, the conference perception will likely begin to diminish too, trailing well behind the SEC and B1G, just as in football.

It pains me to type it but the league needs Hubert Davis to be good. I loath UNC and their fan base (even more than Duke), but the league needs them to be Top 10 good in basketball. Hope Bennett keeps UVA overachieving, get an occasional hot streak by an FSU, Va Tech or someone, all well and good but the league needs UNC to be a big bad wolf again too.

The transfer portal makes it impossible to gauge next year. I do know duke is going to lose a ton and will be trying to replace a legendary coach I can see a step back.

I assume so, but maybe one of them would stay?

Even if they all go, the incoming class is crazy. I'd be going wild if we had that class.

I think the only one of that group who might come back is Keels, and that is very unlikely.

Close to even money that at least 3 will be first-round picks.

If they repeat the rotation established over the first 3 seasons, the 4 you listed will be home-and-homes, and we will get all 4 N Carolina schools in the Dome.
