My god I cannot remember such a loaded conference with individual talent, any thoughts on pre-season POY?

You could look at Duke with Allen, Giles and Tatum
UVA has Perrantes
UNC with Justin Jackson
'Cuse with Mr. Lydon
Clemson has Blossomgame
NC State has Dennis Smith
FSU with Beasley (or Bacon? I forgot which one stayed)

I'm sure missed a few names too, but damn this conference is stacked

I think Allen is probably the preseason favorite

No. You guys have spent too much time on the White threads making him the best player since Melo.
I would say the same about the Lydon threads saying things like he will be ACC POY. He's going to be a very good player, but he doesn't have a dominating personality where I can see him attacking to take over games. White will make sure he gets his shots up as a 5th yr player trying to make the NBA, that we know. But you're not concerned that Lydon will often blend in again, only shoot when he's wide wide open, and defer to others? I am, but I think that's ok because with White he doesn't need to have 18 and 10 like people think he is going to. White coming is a great thing for him and could lead to Lydon staying another year.

Also watch out for Austin Nichols who transferred to us from Memphis and is now eligible to play. He could attract some votes. I'm sure he's looking forward to when we play Ga Tech.

The POY in the ACC won't be from Syracuse. We won't have one player averaging over 14 points a game. We may have 5 players averaging 10 points a game.

Battle may be much better than people are currently imagining.

Freshman often defer...Some don't even play.

White may do very well on our team. He may exceed everyone's expectations. Our team will be very good on transition and we are a much better team than Nebraska kicking the ball out to player on the wing with an open look.

I'm not sure how White can exceed expectations because some of them are Very high.
Remember that this guy has only played one complete starting season of college BB. He's coming into a new team with new ways of doing things.
He may well be an important part of what happens with SU this season, but let's not set the bar so high that there will be disappointment.

Not an impossible prediction, but I'll be surprised if it turns out this way. I think it's more likely that Lydon, White, and Battle are all over 14 ppg (or at least two of them are) with 9-10 ppg each from Roberson and Gillon and a combined 14 ppg from the centers and Frank Howard.

Could be. You are looking for the team to have a much higher scoring average than it has had for some time. I hope you are right. I'd prefer that to more 52-50 games.

White>Lydon
NO. He isn't. White was at Kansas and couldn't get on the floor. He goes to Nebraska and is allowed to take a lot of shots. Good for him. Lydon is an elite talent/ If he were to have gone pro this year, he would have gone in the first round. He will go in the first round this year. He is a much better player.

Lydon was a freshman off the bench who would be on the court with two trigger happy 5th year guards last season. This season, he should be the starter and has the experience edge in Boeheim's system. You don't think he'll be more assertive this season?

6'9" guys who can shoot 40% from deep with serious athleticism don't usually struggle to get points. He averaged 10 and 6 while playing way out of position, on a little more than half the attempts of guys like Cooney, G, and Mal. Give him 6 more shots per game and his average will easily climb to about 16-18ppg. Factor in his defensive presence and shot blocking, and you have a serious contender for ACC POY.

no on Perrantes, highly doubt it on Dennis Smith

while I doubt it with Nichols (he'll be a nice addition for sure but not POY caliber), he's more likely than finger-sniffer

Just one little stat: Last year, for every 100 possessions, White took nearly 24 shots, but he had only 1.2 assists. He had 20 assists for the entire season. Perhaps none of his Nebraska teammates could hit the ocean from the Va Beach Pier, For all I know, none of them could even catch the ball, but this ought to be a small cause of concern, especially given the way he left both Kansas and Nebraska. Furthermore, he attended the Miller School, which is right outside of Charlottesville, and Bennett never offered him a scholarship. He may end of being an All American this year, but...

We don't need him to be an All American. We just need him to knock down open shots and play good defense.

Imo its not because hes selfish or a ball hog. Imo its just because if his shot isnt there, he gets very tentative and goes into reset mode, ie he passes it back out to top of key. In an interview he said that is one of his top priorities this season, be more of a playmaker and make his teammates bettter.

btw, my favorite recent deer-in-headlights example is Bennett on the sideline with about 5 minutes to go in the Elite-Eight game. Maybe he was thinking about the Miller School, and Andrew White, and his happy place, and anything other than the present reality. :)

That deer in the headlight look was shared by his team which did not have one player than wanted to shoot down the stretch in that game.

You're exactly right. Furthermore, bringing White onto the Syracuse team is a 'can't lose' move by Boeheim. First, he has an unused scholarship at the end of August. There is no 'opportunity cost' associated with Andrew White III. Second, if he can do some of the things Richardson did last year, then its all to the good. If he doesn't fit, and Boeheim has to put him at the end of the bench (or, even midway), he's gone next spring and the scholarship is available once again. Signing White makes perfect sense for Syracuse, IMO. My previous post was about expectations only.
