ACC Proposing Change to Conference Champ Game

Because there are not only 32 college teams or whatever. And in comparison to others sports, because playing a game of football is different than playing a game of basketball for example.
Clearly you ignored where FCS, D2, and D3 do it that way. So clearly D1 can accommodate it if they wanted to.

Too much money in the bowl system and too many handouts.

Well, you kind of answered your own question - because they are college kids. Student athletes. At least that was the way it was supposed to work. Now they’re professionals, I guess. So who cares if they go to class at all? Just play football. Make some money. And go home when you’re 24 and your body is shot, and they can find a younger kid better than yoEvery other level of football does it.

I mean every other level of college football does it except for D1.

Who said get rid of the bowls? Those can still be played.

But each conferences won't like getting rid of a championship game which surely makes them some money and gives them a clear true conference champion. But I guess they will have to decide if it is more of a benefit to keep having it or get rid of it if they think it helps them with the playoff rankings.

Regarding the FCS, D2...etc. Yes they do a playoff with 5 games. It just seems like that is getting excessive for D1 with players who have aspirations of playing in the NFL. That is a lot of games and more opportunities for injury. In a way it seems like it gets more and more risky to keep playing so many games for some kids who are wanting to make it big in the NFL. Just my thoughts anyway. I'm sure it will go to it anyway as it means more and more money and that seems to be all that matters.

Ok so come up with a solution. I'm not a fan of pointing out issues without solutions
What's the issue?

This strikes me as a reaction to the possibility that SMU would be left out of the CFP. Which didn't actually happen.

And then they got stomped. Which means the real issue is that the ACC isn't a very good football conference. Not sure changing the champ game makes any difference for that issue.

I don't think that there is one. I was replying to the other post

There doesn't need to be a conference championship game. 24 team playoff is too many. If you give 8 teams a bye and have the other 16 teams play, that would require them to play 5 more games to win the national championship which is just rediculous. 16 team playoff makes sense to me. Nobody gets byes. But the best teams get better seeding. That is enough advantage. That requires each team to play a max of 4 games to win it. Some already need to play 4 games to win it as is with the current 12 team system and the byes. The P4 conferences will all likely get at least 2 teams in.

If D2 and D3 can do it then it's not too many.

I think a 13th regular season game is inevitable. In the conferences never-ending, always-insatiable need for MOAR REVENUE they have to create more "inventory".

They've largely done that via expansion, but adding more games to sell to rights holders in the next frontier (see: the NFL).

Now, I don't think the Masters of Greed will nix conference champ games. But they'll certainly add another regular season game. Actually, I think they'll add 2 eventually. But they gotta start somewhere.
A college player will eventually play more games than a pro on a non playoff team.

I think this as well. Protecting a bad champion. If Clemson was still rolling this wouldn't have been proposed.

Doesn't matter for 'Cuse..3-5 years from now ACC won't have Clemson, FSU and possibly Miami and VA tech.. hopefully Cuse ends up in Big 10
