Data is *before* the Miami, which will get a bump, but a Raleigh newspaper published the cumulative football views per school. Important given new rules of conference revenue distribution and general positioning in an unstable landscape. One note: not sure how stable this data point is as another rankings have different numbers for Florida State.

The article

  • Miami is the clear lead and pulls well.
  • Syracuse benefited by having Tennessee (#3 most watched in country) and Clemson early in the year since they have become unwatchable for the casual user.
  • Likely #2 most-watched program in the Northeast

Scooch, you can add in a bunch here I bet.

That's not bad considering how putrid we are. We're ahead of teams having good or decent seasons like Duke, Pitt, Wake, SMU and NCSU and slightly behind L'ville and Virginia. If we were having anything resembling a decent year we'd be right up there.

I still wonder how they figure that miami draws so many more fans.

Are people outside the ACC tuning in to watch Miami games?

Do they just have more fans? they are the 3rd watched team in florida and the fans of the other two are not watching them much at all.

I get that they played ND and FSU and Florida but they also played SMU/Stand who dont draw

Are they actually pulling in numbers for those other games? Or are they being watched because they are playing other teams?

And who is watching GT to get big numbers?

If GT/Clem draw 5 million do they both get 5 million in their bucket?

There’s also self fulfilling prophecies with a lot of this. If you get better tv slots you get better ratings. You can only do so well in the crappy tv slots.

The paper added the game-by-game average audience figures for each team. I can't imagine that's how the conference's viewership model works. Plus, it can't be taking streaming (ESPN+, ACCNX) and ACC Network viewing into account, since neither of those platforms are Nielsen measured (and thus reported publicly).

Still, the order of the teams seems logical-ish. This isn't rocket science, good teams with big fanbases draw bigger ratings than lousy teams with smaller fanbases.

Miami has a lot of fans nationally so they pull in numbers. Similar to the Dallas Cowboys.
