On my way to work, I followed Dino's thoughts about accelerating around a turn. It didn't go well for me though. I think I may have a flat tire to deal with at the end of the day.

I love Dino's analogies and stories he tells during press conferences. They provide a good glimpse into his way of thinking and what's on his mind. I especially like the one about the person who survived in the cave who had to kill three rattlesnakes to survive. As Dino shared, the real hero was the friend who was there when he said he would be and could be counted on. Great connection to what he expects on the field.

At the same time, I do scratch my head at times like him talking about accelerating around a turn. I'm still trying to understand what winning the right way means versus the wrong way. Nonetheless, I can't wait until after Saturday's win at Wake to hear some more. Love the guy!

It's easier to slow down a bit approaching a turn then accelerate through it than it is to hit the turn at full speed and try to slow down & maintain control.

Winning 51-41 is the right way

Winning 13-10 is the wrong way

Dino should stick to drag race-ing cars. No silly turns, straight and fast.

He must mean SU is going to be the next team to play a Football game at Bristol. ;)

And race cars do accelerate through a curve even if their speed is constant...it's called centripetal acceleration.

Apex

The apex is the point at which you are closest to the inside of the corner, also referred to as the clipping point. Once you have hit the apex you should be able to reduce the steering lock, start increasing the throttle and focus on the exit.

And they used to teach centrifugal force until they decided it didn't exist. Then they demoted Pluto - Pluto loveable Pluto. Science sucks.

Oh, and how could I forget, the classic one about Seabiscuit and all that you needed to do is just show him the whip (referring to Dungey). That one was perfect - described how he views Dungey and the respect that he has for him.

Not ceripedal?

That's what I used to do running - attack the corners in track, and attack the hills in cross country. That's when everyone else decelerates a bit mentally. It's definitely "easier on the tires" than trying to do that with a car, but I hyperextended my "outside" hip once from a 3 race meet on a very small indoor track (only 160 yards per lap).

He was talking about Dungey taking chances throwing the ball to where he should. Like when DeVito came in vs UNC. His O is meant to be played aggressively. Eric was being too passive in the passing game in favor of using his legs and checkdowns.

Edit: I think. ;)

I think you're right. He wants Dungey playing at "the edge" of reckless. But not over-hyped into meathead decisions. He still has to be a race car driver, not a freaking linebacker or weight lifter out there. Just make the throws, and only run when it's there, or when you HAVE to.

I have to admit, I didn't think he had those throws in his arm anymore this year. I am super impressed with his performance, and it gives us so much better chances in our remaining games if he can keep playing like he did on Saturday. We are back to being that team who can beat anyone - although I am beginning to get a little concerned with how banged up our secondary is getting.

I was cringing a little at that one. Reverse some roles a little and that analogy would have made it the coach’s final press conference.

Sadly I thought the same thing. Even if it was obvious and well known that he was talking about a movie about a racehorse. If it were a white coach and a black student-athlete I think the media would have made a very big deal about it. I thought it was a great analogy personally.

There's the problem in 2018.
