KYLE #1

Nope one game is not a measure of a season so that point is actually ridiculous. He had 7 totall in the other 11 and only one in the past 5. He had like 6 last year with OSU. The guy plays the game with surgical precision, he reads the defense very quickly and gets the ball out fast, and it’s almost always right on the numbers. The guy is an amazing QB easily the best we have had here and his numbers prove it.
If you are the most accurrate passer in SU history, you don't throw 5 picks in a game. Period. You cna't compare eras. He is not the best QB we have had here. He was great for us but, in my opinon, and that is all any of this is, not the best we have had. McNabb was a top 5 pick in the NFL draft. Where will Kyle be drafted? McNabb is in the discussion to one day get into the NFL HOF. Don McPhereson is in the College Hall of Fame. What about Kyle. (This is not to disrespect Kyle. He was great this year.)
Its also very difficult to compare QBs from different eras, when the QBs and receivers have more advantages than they did "back in the day", as well as more sophisticated schemes to get open.

Struggles with accuracy ????? Seriously are you insane ? Are you watching the same the player ?? He’s extremely accurate and I’m going to double down and say is without question the best passer I’ve ever seen in college. Saying he struggles with accuracy is like saying Steph Curry is a poor shooter and you can’t be taken seriously.
I remember when I was 8. I kid I kid but really you must be new to the sport or very young lol.

You would say they were better ?? He throws in to extremely tight windows. Not sure I’ve seen another college player do it better lBurrow would be the closet in that list.
How much football do you actually watch?

It’s not a knock on McCord. He is a very good college QB.

But to put him in the Mr Rushmore of college QBs is nuts. He might not even be on the Mt Rushmore of Syracuse QBs.

This post is so incredibly assanine...of the 5 INTs vs Pitt 3 were either dropped passes or diflections. Did you watch the game? I just think a post like this is comical and insulting to all orange fans and most of all to the player and team!

He’s already included in the Mt. Rushmore of SU QBs. If he played four years here, like McNabb or McPherson or Graves or Nassib, et al, we might very well be speaking of him as the best SU QB ever. We will never know. But it doesn’t diminish what he accomplished in one year. And with another game to go.

Look you said he struggles with accuracy and that’s just completely insane. He’s actually one of the most accurate QBs I’ve seen on any level. We will see how it turns out Maybe I know nothing about football but every time I see him play he reminds me of Payton Manning or a Tom Brady type of player. The only weakness I see is he doesn’t have an elite arm but he certain is more than adequate to make all throws needed to play in the NFL. Tommy Devito is in the NFL and this kid is a dramatically better player

5 interceptions in one game would seem to defeat your argument. There are a plethora of QBs with completion percentages well above Kyle’s. He was great for SU, and in more ways than completion %.
Here is a list of most accurate seasons ever. Bo Nix was over 77% last year.
Then there are the old school guys, like Marino, Kosar, Montana, etc.
Two of those interceptions were great plays by Pitt. Interceptions that bounce off the intended receiver and are cought by the opponent count against the QB, but aren't really his fault. One of them was intercepted by a LB laying on the ground after the ball was tipped twice.

Another two were terrific scouting, where they jumped the route on our short passes perfectly.

Only one of those interceptions was really a McCord accuracy mistake.

I was going to post a highlight video, but nobody wants to watch that again.

Well… in NFL scouting circles his ball placement is the reason he’s not higher on the QB draft ranks. So I’d say his analysis of his accuracy seems to be shared amongst the best in the scouting business.

I love McCord but there's no way I can personally put him ahead of Marvin Graves who led us to two 10-2 seasons and a #6 and #11 finish nationally. That is recency bias on steroids.
A better comparison would be how graves did in 93 with a not-so-stellar defense. Or give Kyle a top 5 rushing defense like we had in 92 and we’re probably in the playoffs at 11-1.

Put Darius and Jones at safety on this team and none of those big runs happen. And a lot of completed passes don't happen.

Yep. Best ever here period end of story. The others are basking in Orange delusion. Had he had multiple years here it wouldn’t even be a conversation or close.

McNabb was a special unique talent too no doubt, but what did he achieve here really? Best season 9-3 with a blowout bowl loss. McCord did the same with arguably lesser talent around him.

Why stop there. Put Freeny on the line and Bullock at linebacker and we’re undefeated.
Oh geez, why? Those guys are way too old to be out there. They'd look all brittle and creaky. Just massive injury risks, I'd hold my breath every snap they're out there.

Really, an impressively bad idea guys.

He's definitely a Syracuse Mt Rushmore, but nowhere close to an all-time college QB Mt Rushmore.

On McCord vs McNabb, I think it's too early to tell, context matters.

In a vacuum, McNabb played four seasons, led some incredible victories. His 'body of work' on the field is greater. But the program was in a good place and he "merely" kept it there.

Whereas, Kyle took a risk to turn around a struggling program. He didn't just bring his arm he brought star power and national attention to the program. So far it looks like that has worked, even if he's "merely" a throw-first guy for one or two seasons.

Basically, whenever we get around to carving that 'cuse QB Mount Rushmore we're all talking about into Skytop Quarry facing 481, both have earned a place but for different reasons, and we won't know Kyle's full impact until we can look at it in hindsight.

I know this may ruffle some feathers…but in a vacuum I don’t see much of difference between Nassib his Sr year and McCord.

And no one is putting Nassib on our Mr Rushmore.

And I have a feeling McCord will be drafted around Nassib’s 4th round.

Imagine if Ryan had Justin P, for the full year as well. His numbers would have been even better.

2012: Set SU single-season records for passing yards (3,749), touchdown passes (26), completions (284), passing yards per game (288.4), total offense (3,891) ... 2012 Pro Football Weekly All-American ... All-BIG EAST Second Team ... 2013 Senior Bowl selection ... His 288.4 yards per game ranked 17th in the nation and led the BIG EAST ... Tied for the league lead with six 300-yard passing performances ... Ranked 18th nationally and led the BIG EAST in total offense (312.3 yards/game) ... Ranks second in SU history and third on the BIG EAST all-time list with 70 career touchdown passes … His 22.6 completions per game ranked 22nd nationally

Nassib is wildly underrated on this board. You could make the argument he’s number 2 or 3 in the pantheon of SU QBs.

You could, but you’d be wrong.

McNabb is (nearly) undisputed #1.

Maybe I’m biased because it was while I was at SU, but McPherson is my #2.
Dude got jobbed outta the Heisman.
Undefeated season.

For all of his warts, Dungey had a better overall college career than Nassib, including a better final Senior year season.

Yes - Ryan got drafted and got to hold Eli’s clipboard for a few seasons.
But we’re talking Cuse college careers, not NFL -
otherwise Philcox & Devito would be 2 & 3. LOL.

And then there’s Graves.
Who also had a better overall career & peak than Nassib.

McCord has had an amazing one season.

But that’s not enough for QB Rushmore status on its own, unless it leads to a championship of some sort.
Call it the Carmelo Rule.
